Hayley

Watching Strictly at the weekend and JJ has a toddler daughter called Hayley. It actually sounded quite cool and different. There have been threads wondering about an 80s revival. This could be the start!

I find it a pleasant but utterly boring name

user1493494961 · 06/11/2020 20:38

Not for me.

ShrimpSymphony · 06/11/2020 20:38

Dated and I know an awful Hayley so not a fan

KitKatastrophe · 06/11/2020 20:39

I met a baby named Kayley recently and found it surprising. Not in a good or bad way, just surprising. Hayley and Kayley are pretty dated to a particular time period.

ellenpartridge · 06/11/2020 20:40

Not keen on Hayley or Kayley. I don't think they're ready to come back. Slightly prefer Keeley.

SeanCailleach · 06/11/2020 21:17

I love Hayley and Kayleigh.
I can think of several young girls named Kayla and Kayleigh.
The babyname sites say "caoilfhinn" but it sounds to me like "céile" meaning partner, companion.

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/11/2020 21:20

Dreary.

Circusoflove · 06/11/2020 21:23

It just stood out. If his daughter was called Tilly or Bella I wouldn’t have even registered the name. This was a bit fresher I felt.

It was unglamorous enough a that time. Distance hasn't improved it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/11/2020 21:36

It is refreshing amongst all the Avas Evas and Islas. However in 30-40 years down the line people will say. I met a baby Ava today. I was so shocked.
If you think about it Hayley is probably a granny name now, isn’t it

Sunflower0000 · 06/11/2020 22:34

It's a very 80's name, I went to school with a few and my good friend was named this. My friends mum said she named her after Haley's comet which was around at the time.

Katgolde · 07/11/2020 05:44

I really like it. It sounds fresh and outdoorsy.

Angelmonkey · 07/11/2020 07:56

I know a Hayley in her 30s and my DD5 has a Hayleigh in her class

It's a bit dated and boring to me. I think the Hailey spelling looks much nicer though.

cloverbug · 07/11/2020 08:57

Will add that I know quite a few Hailey's / Hayley's / Haylee's and they are all lovely.

Marlena1 · 07/11/2020 09:57

I love it, love Hallie too.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 07/11/2020 10:09

I like it. Also like Hallie and Callie

Duckwit · 07/11/2020 10:11

Yes, I quite like it. I also like Gemma, I know a couple of young Gemmas and I was surprised to hear it at first, but I like it for a little girl and for a grown woman actually!

I also really like Natalie and Keeley, if we are talking 80s names!

NameChange84 · 07/11/2020 10:14

It’s a bad name for me as I was horrifically bullied by one as a child, then by another as an adult at work and the others I’ve known have never been particularly nice either so I have trust issues around Hayleys.

I knew an angelic little Halle-Rose a few years ago and I do prefer Halle (nice reference to both the comet and the choir/orchestra). I don’t like Kayleigh but love Ceili or Ceilidh.

There is a comeback with some of these names...I’ve heard of babies Laura, Louise, Patricia etc recently.

TheChristmasPrincess · 07/11/2020 11:27

Hayley always reminds me of Hayley Cropper from Coronation Street. Very fuddy duddy and dated.

I knew a few Hayleys as a kid and they were usually scallies or chavs and utterly horrible. So I have quite a negative association with the name. Would hope it isn’t having a revival any time soon.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 07/11/2020 11:54

I’m 50 and had a Hayley in my class. And my friend’s mother is Hayley. I don’t think of it as particularly 80s. It’s quite a pretty sounding name. The Hayley I went to school with was sweet.

Antonin · 07/11/2020 13:24

The very first Hayley was Hayley Mills, daughter of actor John Mills and writer Mary Hayley Bell, so a surname/family name. After Hayley’s debut as a cute wee girl in Tiger Bay the name took off. So was a celeb name of its time (?early 60’s ) and not a classic. Let it rest in peace for a few more decades
