Hi all

Hoping to hear some opinions from you all!

Does the name Rebecca go with a surname beginning with ā€˜C’?

I feel like every time I say it, I stumble on the ā€˜c’ sounds!

Honest opinions please!

Rebecca Ca...?
Rebecca Cl...?
Rebecca Ch...?
Rebecca Co...?

For me trying to make up surnames, it only feels awkward on the ones that open with a similar sound to the end of the first name. So hard to answer based on only knowing the first initial.

If she ends up being known as Becky or Bec or Becca and being called Becky C... may not really matter.

AriettyHomily · 04/11/2020 16:10

Pretty impossible to say without knowing the name

Mumoftwoinprimary · 04/11/2020 16:14

Hmmm - I couldn’t see what you meant until I tried some examples.

Rebecca Close and Rebecca Cleaver - no problem.
Rebecca Croft - I stumbled over.

Trying to think of more C surnames now.....

Rebecca Clarke is fine. Rebecca Cross went a bit funny again.

So I seem to be fine with Cl names but get stuck with Cr names.

Rebecca Carver is fine.

My surname starts with an R and has a b in it and we ruled out Rebecca for that reason. Shame as it is a lovely name.

LemonBreeland · 04/11/2020 16:14

I tried sounding it with some C surnames and I can't see the issue. I agree with the pp that the end of the surname tends to be more of an issue.

GU24Mum · 04/11/2020 16:16

I agree with the first poster - really depends what the second letter is.

If it's a consonant (ie Ch, Cr, Cl) then to me, that's fine - eg Rebecca Chambers; Rebecca Clements and slightly less so, Rebecca Cranstone.

If it's a vowel, I think it's much trickier: Rebecca Collins OK; Rebecca Carter / Rebecca Collier more of a mouthful.

bearlyactive · 04/11/2020 16:17

Becca C sounds a bit like Bexy IMO, but other than that I don't see the issue (obviously depending on the actual surname itself).

MikeUniformMike · 04/11/2020 16:39

Rebecca Carter is a no. Try Becky and Bex with the surname too.

Ladderofyears · 04/11/2020 18:10

I know a Rebecca Cr (one syllable) and it flows fine for me but I guess I've been saying it for a long time.
I've tried it with a few though and it sounds ok to me. With some it's quite alliterative eg Rebecca Carter but I think in quite a nice way.

Can't help thinking of caca Confused

EmilyDoesntKnowHerStuff · 04/11/2020 18:15

Thanks for the replies!

It would be Rebecca Cook

Think sounds fine. I love the name Rebecca and we’re pretty set on it or our baby due in March....and our surname starts with c too!

EmilyDoesntKnowHerStuff · 04/11/2020 18:21

That’s exciting Paperyfish! Congratulations.

I think I’ve said it too many times now šŸ˜‚ I’m making it sound harder to say than it actually is!

AlwaysLatte · 04/11/2020 18:35

It doesn't really flow very well. What about Elizabeth Cook? Because Rebecca would almost certainly end up as Becky or Becca and Elizabeth could be shortened to Beth or Betty which are both similar?

IggyAce · 04/11/2020 18:42

Rebecca Cook is fine. Speaking as a Rebecca I’ve never gone by Becky or Becca so don’t worry too much about nn. My family have always used my full name and only my 2 best friends shorten it to Bec.

EmilyDoesntKnowHerStuff · 04/11/2020 19:08

I think the same AlwaysLatte, I think I’ve put myself off it because it just doesn’t flow right. Such a shame as it’s a lovely name! It’s the only name I like. Why did I marry a Cook!? šŸ˜‚

I think that combination flows absolutely fine and, honestly, it wouldn’t really matter if it didn’t, how often do any of use use our full names?

IdblowJonSnow · 04/11/2020 19:15

I think it's ok as a combination and love the name Rebecca.

Capamile · 04/11/2020 20:05

It doesn’t flow right IMHO
Do you like Elizabeth, Victoria, Alexandra at all as similarly classic?

Spin44gin · 04/11/2020 20:22

I have similar alliteration in my name and always liked it.. gives the whole name personality and makes it memorable. Go for it if you love it! Rebecca so pretty

houselikeashed · 05/11/2020 00:58

Lovely.

SionnachRua · 05/11/2020 01:06

I do think it's a bit staccato but not bad in the grand scheme of things. It's usable.

EmilyDoesntKnowHerStuff · 05/11/2020 05:31

Thank you everyone! X

I think it sounds fine as does Becky, Becca or even Bec Cook.

PumpkinsPatch · 05/11/2020 08:28

I know a Rebecca Cook.

Never thought of it as a bad mix?

Firebird83 · 05/11/2020 09:01

I think it sounds fine
