Tadhg or Paxton

I'm pregnant with a boy and I quite like these two names. Tadhg is a name we have previously considered for our other sons but we didn't go for it. Paxton would be after my grandad. I'm so indecisive and my baby is due in a month so I'm really not sure on what name to choose. What are your opinions on these names and do you have any middle name suggestions for them? Thank you

I've not come across Tadhg before & didn't know how to pronounce it but I still think it's a great name! Surely these days we should all be learning to pronounce names as they're told to us, whether or not we've come across them before!

Kanaloa · 30/10/2020 15:45

Out of the two I would choose Paxton. It’s not my style but it’s easy to spell & pronounce and has a nice meaning.

autumnkate · 30/10/2020 15:48

Tadhg by about a million

My other sons are Arthur Magnus, Mason Connor and Jonas Roy.

I prefer Tadhg (even though I can't spell it without checking and pronounced it wrong!) but Paxton "looks" better with the sibling names.

BorderlineHappy · 30/10/2020 16:13

I'm so sorry .... they are both absolutely awful... the spelling of the first is just so ugly, and I hate names that are originally surnames.

Tadhg is an irish name spelled the Irish way.So its not ugly.

jblue2018 · 30/10/2020 16:18

So unnecessary for people to say they are ‘awful’ or ‘ugly’. Maybe not to your taste but certainly neither of those things. I like Tadhg the best and I’ve always had a surname which I’ve had to spell out - it’s no trouble! I can’t imagine a first name would be a problem either.

MarjorieX · 30/10/2020 16:19

I hadn't thought of using Tadhg and Paxton together but now that I'm thinking about I really like Tadhg Paxton.

Two very different names! Tadhg is much nicer than Paxton imo and goes better with the sibling names. Though I do like the Tadhg Paxton combo you've suggested.

cretelover · 30/10/2020 16:22

Sorry not keen on either

M0rT · 30/10/2020 16:29

I like Tadhg Paxton....I had a major crush on a Tadhg when I was 12 so I've loved the name ever since Smile

MrsBungle · 30/10/2020 16:33

I like both but I think Paxton goes better with your other children’s names.

user1493494961 · 30/10/2020 17:23

I think Tadhg Paxton goes well with his brothers' names.

ZebraKid71 · 30/10/2020 17:34

Definitely tadhg, I know two little tadhgs (one is 3 and the other is 1)and it's becoming more well known in my area so I wouldn't let the spelling /pronunciation issues put you off.

VioletSunset · 30/10/2020 17:36

I would go with Tadgh :)

TheNavigator · 30/10/2020 17:40

I prefer Paxton, I have family in the Scottish Borders & it us common to use the mothers maiden name as the sons first name, so surnames as first names sound fine to me. In my extended family we have a Kerr, Campbell, Pringle and a Milne.

lavenderlove · 30/10/2020 18:21

I prefer Tadgh a lot more!

I'm confused as I have a friend called "Tadhgh" and he pronounces it "Tay-Dee" and is called "Tad" for short. Is this a completely different name with the extra h?

SeanCailleach · 30/10/2020 18:27

@lavenderlove it is the same name. Irish is a massive language and the name is ancient. We have three native dialects, two learner dialects, and names tend to evolve in their own way also.

BorderlineHappy · 30/10/2020 18:29

@lavenderlove wheres your friend from?

MikeUniformMike · 30/10/2020 19:04

Tadhg Paxton Surname.
Job done.

TillyTheTiger · 30/10/2020 19:09

Tadhg is absolutely gorgeous. I was tempted to use it for DS, but we're about as English as you get and I didn't want to appropriate anything. Still love the name though.

Sausagedog1 · 30/10/2020 19:18

I love Tadhg and don't like Paxton. We have a son with a slightly difficult to pronounce Irish name and I'm so glad we stuck with it.
Tadhg is really easy once you know how to say it and is is very cool!

MadeForThis · 30/10/2020 19:38

Tadhg was on my shortlist for a boy. Loved it.

Had 2 girls tho.

@chasingshunshine taig and Tadhg are pronounced differently. In N Ireland anyway.

Taig sounds like tayge. Totally different vowel sound.

tadhg is like tiger with no er

lavenderlove · 30/10/2020 22:07

@BorderlineHappy his parents are from Cork but he was born in England

OwlOne · 30/10/2020 22:10

Paxton is so bad, but i like Pax. Pax is latin which is cool and the meaning is peace which isca great meaning for a name
