What do you think of the name Edward? I know it's not very MN to force a nickname and I wouldn't push it but do you think Woods would be usable as a nickname at home as opposed to Woody? I like Edward but not massively keen on Ed/Eddy. Ty.

I love Edward but it’s become so popular recently particularly with the nn teddy/ted. I think in the home you can call your child whatever you like but it’s like to get Ed/Eddie in school

I love Edward but I don’t understand your rationale for your planned nickname. I suppose it also depends where you live; anyone with a rhotic accent doesn’t pronounce the second syllable as ‘wood’.

Love Edward and Ed

I have an Edward. He s now known as Ed by friends in his teens years. All my kids have names which can be shortened to names we also like. I like Ned too!

Cheers all, I don't mind Edward I just can't imagine us using it if that makes sense? Maybe we will when he arrives and the nn happens organically! I am so smitten with the name Edward!

Edward is a great choice, partly because it is so classic it's unlikely to ever really date and partly because there are so many nickname options as you've discovered! I don't think Woods is that strange if you like it- as you mentioned it's not far from Woody. Other options other than the usual Ed/Eddie/Ned/Neddy/Ted/Teddy or Ward, would be Bear (from the "Teddy" nickname - as in Bear Grylls) or even Iolo (from Iorwerth, often considered the Welsh version of Edward).
