Thoughts please for DS? xx

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bid876 · 24/10/2020 23:44

No, but only because of name association with 2 Drew’s I never liked.

SingingSands · 24/10/2020 23:45

I like it, I went to university with a Drew. Much nicer than Andrew, which always gets shortened to Andy.

MamaLoLo1 · 24/10/2020 23:45

Love it 👌🏼

Porridgeoat · 24/10/2020 23:45

Yep nice.

Theimpossiblegirl · 24/10/2020 23:46

Drew is nice, I'd go for Andrew on the birth certificate though, personally. I'm a fan of the formal name for future careers.

threesenoughthanks · 24/10/2020 23:47

It's my daughters middle name. She likes it. I think it's quite cool without trying too hard.

heartracer · 25/10/2020 08:31

Ok thanks, all feedback is much appreciated. Maybe I should note I'm from UK and live between England and Wales.

@Theimpossiblegirl appreciate that, we would be using Drew as the full name on the BC.

I only like it as a shortening for Andrew.

Firebird83 · 25/10/2020 11:14

Don’t like it

heartracer · 25/10/2020 11:55

@Firebird83 appreciate your help anyway. Would you mind me asking what about it you don't like?

Don't let a load of randoms on the internet put you off though, it's a perfectly normal and inoffensive name that would not be a hindrance into adulthood like many.

june2007 · 25/10/2020 12:06

I just think of it as a shortening for Andrew.

MikeUniformMike · 25/10/2020 12:06

Much prefer Andrew or Andy.
I associate Drew with the girl in ET.

heartracer · 25/10/2020 12:36

Thank you @Theimpossiblegirl that's really kind, I will definitely go with what I love but always good to get some input

heartracer · 25/10/2020 17:56

@MikeUniformMike I actually really like it for a girl actually but it would be for our DS. I think I people would associate it with her but that's not a bad thing!

For me the Drew that first comes to mind is actress Barrymore, so it feels a bit feminine to me. While I like it as a nickname for Andrew (much more than Andy), because it's so unisex now I'm not personally keen on it as a given name, sorry.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/10/2020 18:46

As others have posted though, don't let others put you off if you love it. I wouldn't be surprised to meet a male Drew, or think there was anything wrong or to judge about the name.

squashpumpkinidiot · 25/10/2020 18:50

Love it

heartracer · 27/10/2020 17:39

@squashpumpkinidiot yay someone likes it too. really wanted to get a good overall opinion on it but not had many replies on this post xx

Justmuddlingalong · 27/10/2020 17:43

Love it too. Went to school with a Drew, he was lovely and so by association, I would recommend you use it.

Ylfa · 27/10/2020 17:46

I dated a Drew over thirty years ago, it’s a very underrated and underused name.

VenusClapTrap · 27/10/2020 18:29

I have a lovely friend called Drew, so I think it’s a great name. I think I’d put Andrew on the birth certificate though because to me it’s very much a nickname rather than a standalone name.

Carrotcakey · 27/10/2020 18:34

I love it and it was on our shortlist both times but we’ve got girls. I think of it as a boys name. I know Drew Barrymore but it sounds masculine to me.

I really like Andrew nn Drew too.

heartracer · 27/10/2020 18:55

That's lovely. I like it too. For me, I think it's unusual nowadays but still fits in with the Finns, Coles, Jacks etc...
