I really love robin for a boy but my OH is not convinced . We're both agreed on lilianne for a girl ( after my grandmother). It's a boy name we cant decide on Shock

I love them both

QueenBlueberries · 20/10/2020 13:22

I am not so keen on Robin either, although I know quite a few Robin now and it's growing on me. Lillianne is lovely, will probably get shortened to Lily are you OK with that?

CuppaZa · 20/10/2020 13:22

I like Robin but not Lilianne

sizzlewizzle · 20/10/2020 13:22

@CuppaZa Typo on my end sorry , it would be liliane which is French as my side of the family are French and after my French grandmother, Lili (or Lily , the English way) for short

I love Robyn for a girl. Not keen on robin for a boy though.

Robin for a boy is quite sweet, but your DH may not be convinced as it's gender neutral so some men could think of it as a little bit feminine? An option would be to use Robert on the birth certificate and then use Robin as a nickname (Robin was as popular a nickname for Robert historically as Robbie, Bobby etc are today).

Liliane is lovely as long you don't mind misspellings as many people in the UK will automatically assume it's Lilian if they hear it (similar to the French Vivienne vs the English Vivian).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/10/2020 14:45

Sorry just realised you said OH, not DH - I shouldn't have assumed, apologies!

I like Robin, as did my OH, but it didn’t work with our surname (which is a plural noun, so sounded like a theft of something eg Robin Cakes).

Will you be pronouncing Liliane the French way? I was also wondering if most non-Francophones would default to Lilian.

CatteStreet · 20/10/2020 16:18

Both nice names. Robin is one you don't hear much any more. Rowan perhaps as an alternative?

CuppaZa · 20/10/2020 18:05

@sizzlewizzle, ah I see. Lily/Lili is nice Smile
