What else might I like?

I’m really struggling with boys names. Some I like are;
Emrys- my favourite but DP doesn’t like
Esca- worries about escalator comments
Edward/teddy- getting very very popular
Taran & Trystsan- surname ends with ‘an’ so not sure it flows too well.

I’ve gone through hours of websites, books, forums and I just can’t find anything. I want something that’s not likely to be several in a class but also not sounding made up. Any suggestions welcome.
DD is Isabelle so need to go with that.

Emrys- fine but your DP doesn't like it
Esca- too out there when there are so many Ezras around
Edward/teddy- getting very very popular - not keen
Taran & Trystan- Taran is thunderclap. I'd spell it Tristan.

Idris is too closely connected with Mr Elba, and is gaining popularity with muslims.

There are loads of welsh boys' names that are easy to say - have a good look through a reliable list like the Heini Gruffudd book.
A really easy one is Wyn (pron. Win). Gwyn is nicer but will cause the dreaded transposed vowels, and twatty people thinking it's a girl's name. Glyn might be easier.

"Idris is too closely connected with Mr Elba, and is gaining popularity with muslims."

So what?! Why not use a name that's associated with a black actor and with Muslims?!

CrocodileFondue · 12/10/2020 15:26

Emlyn is lovely, I've never met one.

1- so what?
2 - it’s also a traditional Welsh name, after a medieval Welsh king.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I’ve had a huge craving for ambrosia custard since that was suggested 😂
Idris is lovely but didn’t want matching I names. I know I’m incredibly fussy 🙈 I do t remember choosing names being this hard with my daughter

@bikerunski, might not be so good a name if there are several Idrises in the same age group, and it looks celebrity-inspired.

Gethin?

Iestyn or Ianto

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/10/2020 19:19

What about Emyr?

Kanaloa · 12/10/2020 19:23

I think Edward nicknamed Teddy and Tristan both go really well with Isabelle.

NameChange30 · 12/10/2020 19:29

I would avoid names beginning with the same letter for same-sex siblings, but it wouldn't bother me so much for a boy and a girl, personally.

angelaEhen · 12/10/2020 19:36

Love Edward, nickname Eddie or ed

MikeUniformMike · 12/10/2020 19:55

@NameChange30, you are the one that pointed out skin colour. Had I made a comment about the name Heath being too closely associated with Mr Ledger or Benedict too closely associated with Mr Cumberbatch, would you have made a point of mentioning that they are white.

NameChange30 · 12/10/2020 20:11

If the name had been popular among Christians, would you have mentioned that, or is it just Muslims that are worth mentioning?

Whether it was intended or not it did come across a bit racist.

I don't see the problem in a name being associated with a celebrity unless that celebrity is unpleasant for some reason.

MikeUniformMike · 12/10/2020 20:28

Benedict - yes, probably.
Old Testament names - I'd probably say something like 'a bit too OT for my taste'.
Atheist parents calling their child Christian or Joshua - yes, I'd comment, just as I would if they anted to call a DC Bodhi or Shria.
An acquaintance who is a practising hindu named his son a Sikh name and yes I commented, and yes it was celebrity-inspired .

The racism here is in the eyes of the beholder.
The reference to muslims was because it was a seldom-used name until recently.

Viviennemary · 12/10/2020 20:33

Isabelle is a very nice name. I dont like any of your boys names very much. Ive never heard of them. Not keen on Teddy or many of the names suggested. I think there are far fewer nice boys names than on girls.
