What's your thoughts on Guy? I really love simple underused names and this one is winning for me atm. Tia x

I really like Guy. Was just coming on to suggest Gus and seen a PP has suggested that too so must be the same vibe as Guy!

BurtonHouse · 12/10/2020 21:24

Love it! If I'd had two sons not one number 2 would have been Guy.

IaltagDhubh · 12/10/2020 21:27

My next door neighbour is called Guy. His number is saved in my phone as “Guy next door” which makes me smile every time I see it.

Peeteea · 12/10/2020 21:36

My godfather was called Guy. He was lovely so it always makes me think of him. Definitely not one you will run into much I don’t think.

TheHalloweenFairy · 22/10/2020 21:17

I used to know someone called Guy Chapman. Literally man manman. He changed his name by deed poll.

MsTSwift · 22/10/2020 21:19

Like it. Refreshing after all the top 10 names endlessly recycled

It is ok but not great. A bit wet.

AliciaMayEmory · 22/10/2020 21:28

DH is Guy. I really like it. He's never had any stick about his name, everyone can spell and say it (although on the phone sometimes people mistake it for Gary), and it's underused, but well known at the same time.

Also, when we go to France and they use the french pronunciation I love it! He sounds much more exotic! Grin

GoingBackTo505 · 22/10/2020 21:30

I've always hated it. It's like calling your baby "bloke"

MorningNinja · 22/10/2020 21:33

I'm not keen on the English but love the French pronunciation.

Panicmode1 · 22/10/2020 21:34

I am married to one, so I like it, but I'm not sure I would have chosen it for any of my boys because the ones I knew (2) in my early youth were arrogant wankers.

Weirdly there are 2 more in my street (so like a PP, I also have "next door Guy" in my phone). I did have "Guy next door" for a while but kept almost texting him when I meant to text DH....

yomellamoHelly · 22/10/2020 21:34

One of ours is called Guy. So I love it.

Think it's a marmite name though, and lots of people reacted strangely when we told them the name including the (spanish) midwife who delivered him. Didn't get this with the other two.

Twinkie01 · 22/10/2020 21:37

I just think of the gorilla they had a London zoo of which I think there is still a statue.

CloudyGladys · 22/10/2020 22:02

So long as you're not pronouncing it goo-ee

SeanCailleach · 22/10/2020 22:13

Ah my first love at ten years old... super classic name.

Smiles at "Guy Chapman". Why would you change it? It's not that funny.

LaChatte · 22/10/2020 22:24

You could have Bill as a nickname (Guy - Guillaume - William - Bill)...

PoodleMoth · 23/10/2020 20:24

I like it

gingerwhingerwife · 23/10/2020 20:28

Lovely

Ladderofyears · 24/10/2020 10:20

I like it. I only know one - he's 15 and very cool/sporty/popular.

thegreylady · 24/10/2020 10:55

Love it but my eldest is Guy, he is 50 now and likes his name.

Luckingfovely · 24/10/2020 11:02

I think it's lovely. One of the dearest men I know is called Guy.

Those that don't like it, I suspect they've never really known anyone called Guy and so it hasn't made the leap from being a generic term to an actual name.

As with any name, it will stick and become your child's very own, so if you like it, ignore the naysayers and carry on!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 24/10/2020 15:57

I’m due on 5 November and if one more person jokes about calling the baby Guy...... (or Fawkes or Phoenix)

It’s an ok name but I’m not overly keen. It feels unimaginative to call a guy Guy!

AllPlayedOut · 24/10/2020 16:04

I have actually known a Guy and I still think it's a terrible name.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 25/10/2020 21:41

I went to school with a Guy (age 30).. so I associate it as a 90s name.
I don’t love it... but if you do, that’s all that matters.
