Remy - thoughts? And ideas for a middle name?

We’ve had a difficult job deciding on a boy’s name but Remy has recently grown on us. Just wonder what other people think of it? Would you associate it with a boy? As keep reading it’s a unisex name. And any middle name suggestions?

When I was at school some horrible kids used to call the children in the “remedial” groups ‘Remies’
Or use ‘remy’ as an insult

I can’t help it. But that is what I associate it with.
Could be a regional thing though.
I’m down south and like Jesse for a boy - until DH said what if he ever goes to Scotland?!

Oneandabean · 09/10/2020 22:32

I’ve only ever heard it as the name of the rat from the movie ratatouille, it’s a boys name in that.

DartmoorChef · 09/10/2020 22:37

Martin

ShinyGreenElephant · 09/10/2020 22:41

Its the rat out of ratatouille. Or possibly the brandy? But definitely the rat, I think that's what everyone will immediately think of. Sorry.

Oh dear. Not looking too positive Confused

Makes me think of the Nicholas Cage character in the Big Easy. I like it and definitely male.

Crabbo · 09/10/2020 22:51

I think it’s really nice - I know one and it suits him. I think of it as unisex.

Firebird83 · 09/10/2020 22:55

There is a boy Remy in my DS’s nursery. I like it!

scrivette · 09/10/2020 23:00

There is one in DC's year, I like it.

IslandLulu · 09/10/2020 23:01

I don't think people use the word remedial anymore. So that won't be an issue.

I like Remy.

My friend has a Remy, he really suits the name. His middle name is Michael.

ODFOx · 09/10/2020 23:12

As pp says: Martin

MB90 · 09/10/2020 23:15

Our friend has a Remy. It really suits him. It’s a nice name. I don’t get the ‘remedial’ reference

Coconutmeg · 09/10/2020 23:22

” don't think people use the word remedial anymore. So that won't be an issue.”

True, like retard. Too soon for a child’s name though even if it is just the grandparents’ generation that have the association.

CandyLeBonBon · 09/10/2020 23:36

De' Sevir?

FlippingFedup · 10/10/2020 00:05

I like it. I think Lee goes well with it for a middle name

RubyViolet · 10/10/2020 00:07

I know aRemy, he’s suave . I love the name.

pinkpinecone · 10/10/2020 08:14

It's a nice name, I think of it as unisex. Remy for a boy and Remi for a girl.

itsjakeandamy · 10/10/2020 09:05

The brandy.

babynamelover · 10/10/2020 09:08

I know 2 Remy's under ten in NZ.

Remy William
Remy Thomas
Remy Andrew
Remy Francis
Remy James
Remy Lucas
Remy Christopher
Remy Nathaniel

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/10/2020 09:13

I immediately thought of the rat from Ratatouille. I don’t dislike it but I wouldn’t choose it to name my child.

Blusteryday2020 · 10/10/2020 09:13

Thanks everyone. I don’t mind the drink association at all, people still use the names Jack and Daniel after all! But it is a shame if everyone over a certain age thinks of a horrible school insult..

Like Lucas and James middle name suggestions

My driving instructor was a Remy and a friends husband is Jean-Remi. It's quite popular in older generations where I live as there's a lot of French crossover. I like it 🙂

Obviously it's connected to the Disney film but I don't think that should necessarily be a deal breaker. When he's an Adult people won't make the same connection, just as I don't automatically think of Peter Pan when I meet someone called Wendy (despite that name not even existing until JM Barrie wrote the book).

HowFastIsTooFast · 10/10/2020 09:26

Ps... I think the pps mention of an insult might be localised. I'm from the North of England and have never heard it used that way.
