Final two!

Baby boy due imminently. Big brother Oliver. We have narrowed it down to the final two:

Archie
Ruaridh (I like the spelling Ruary but DH has vetoed it)

Middle name will be Calum and we have a double barrelled surname which goes well with both.

Ruaridh without a doubt! Especially as you're Scottish.

Archie is overused, twee and yes, a little 'naff'. And full name Archibald is ugly imo.

fassnk · 11/10/2020 09:32

Ruaridh vote from me too. it was on our finals list for DS 😁

Thesaltandthesea · 11/10/2020 23:34

Thanks everyone! Seems like a pretty even split. At this rate we might end up flipping a coin in the delivery room!

Ruaridh.

Archie is not to my taste at all.

willloman · 12/10/2020 10:56

Ruaridh . Child will love it.

022828MAN · 12/10/2020 10:58

Is it pronounced Rory?

MidnightFlit · 12/10/2020 11:00

Ruaridh by a long way.

user1495884620 · 12/10/2020 11:04

Ruaridh is by far the nicer name but I think Archie goes better with Oliver.

Whatsyourflava · 12/10/2020 11:05

Archie definitely

Sojo88 · 12/10/2020 11:06

Much prefer Ruaridh

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/10/2020 11:06

Pronounced Roo ree.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/10/2020 11:07

I like Ruari as a spelling op, not keen on the y so out of the two prefer your DHs option

Salamander91 · 12/10/2020 11:13

Prefer Ruaridh but Archie goes better with Oliver

TitilatedOcelot · 12/10/2020 11:17

Ruadhri is much nicer than Archie.

UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 11:20

Ruairi was our boys name if #2 was a boy.

I love it, DH is dyslexic and couldn't quite grasp the "dh" spelling so we opted to drop them - not keen on the Y spelling.

Also note that although we live in Scotland where is popular, lots of people seemed to pronounce it Rory (Roar-y) to start with but once you've introduced him and corrected it is not an issue.

I'm not keen on Archie - it's a very "meh" name to me.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 12/10/2020 11:20

Ruaridh 100% (roo-ah-ray). Plus Roo is a really cute nickname. Archie is twee and sounds to me like a children's tv character.

MimiDaisy11 · 12/10/2020 11:44

I'm embarrassed to say I'd never come across Ruaridh before. I'd only ever seen Rory, which my partner liked but I didn't, but this name seems nicer. I tried to look up the pronunciation just to be sure on youtube but weirdly the videos seem to be by non-native speakers and they're trying to sound out all the letters LOL.

It'll cause the kid more issues with explaining how to say it but I still would go for it over Archie.

Kittykatmacbill · 13/10/2020 23:35

Ruaridh.

Unless you call him Archibald which is fab name.

GoldenPlover · 13/10/2020 23:38

Ruaridh!

itsjakeandamy · 14/10/2020 17:07

Ruaridh.
It's lovely. I'm not Scottish but I know how to say it!

PinkJellycat · 14/10/2020 17:09

Ruaridh.

Not a fan of Archie.

HowFastIsTooFast · 14/10/2020 17:15

I'm biased towards a family Archie, but I like Ruaridh too.

With regards the spelling yes he'll have to spell it out but I have quite a common easy to spell name and am asked to spell it out all the time so I think anyone would have to pick a very simple name to avoid it completely.

When it comes to Starbucks / restaurants / anything else of no consequence he'll be free to tell them he's called Dave or Tim if it bothers him GrinWink

SBTLove · 14/10/2020 19:29

If you’re Scottish please don’t spell it Ruary

emmathedilemma · 14/10/2020 21:15

Another vote for Ruaridh!
Oli and Rhu is cute.

PlantPotting · 14/10/2020 22:47

Archie for sure
