Hello, I have two daughters, one of which has the middle name Rose, Can I consider Rosie as a first name for my next daughter?

Yeah definitely!

PlantPotting · 25/09/2020 11:53

Yeh that's fine

BlueChampagne · 25/09/2020 11:54

I wouldn't, unless you were going to use a longer name (Rosamund, Rosalie, Rosanne, Rosalind) and use Rosie as a nickname.

emmathedilemma · 25/09/2020 13:23

I wouldn't unless there's some strong family connection to the names.

Champy87 · 25/09/2020 14:22

I think its fine. Most people don't their middle names anyway and even if they do, so what. Your daughters won't always come as a pair. Once they are grown with their own lives, the only people that will know about the similar name will be family members.

Ryan Gosling used the middle name of his first daughter for the first name of his second daughter and it hasn't done them any harm

LuckyFlash · 25/09/2020 14:46

My dad and brothers have all passed on a name that way. Oldest brother has my dads middle name as his first. Youngest brother has oldest brothers middle name as his first. I imagine it’s pretty common as a lot of people will use up their two favourite names on a first child in case they don’t have another they can use it for. You almost never use a middle name in real life so it would hardly be weird for them.

One of Prince George’s middle names is Louis.

Thanks everyone, you have reassured me. So my two daughters are Anna and Emily, and I love Rosie and Alice, which of these two would you choose?

LotusClover · 25/09/2020 16:26

Rosie over Alice for sure. Alice and Anna are too similar. Rosie fits nicely with Anna and Emily.

MercyBodle · 26/09/2020 05:48

I think it's fine to still use Rosie if you choose.
I love both Rosie and Alice so I see your dilemma. I think they both go very well with the sisters' names. I don't think Anna and Alice are too alike to use, but obviously ideal if they all start with different letters. My slight negative against using Rosie for a third sister is that it sounds like a "little sister" name, not having the same gravitas of Anna or Emily.

sorryforswearing · 26/09/2020 05:58

Rosa is a favourite of mine and doesn’t have the little girl element of Rosie. At the end of the day it’s just personal taste though.

Anappleaday1 · 27/09/2020 07:43

I think it's fine to use Rosie, but of the two I much prefer Alice! It goes really well with your other dds names.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/09/2020 07:49

I regret not doing a similar thing with my 3rd ds name. Go for it.

Loloandbb · 27/09/2020 09:14

My middle name is Emily which is then what my parents called my little sister.
It’s never bothered either of us that we share a name or my other sister that we share a name and she doesn’t share one with either of us.

Spied · 27/09/2020 09:16

Much prefer Alice.
Anna and Emily are names that suit an adult too. So is Alice.
Rosie imo is stuck with a little girl vibe.

I've just posted the exact same question before looking here!!
