Unique baby girl names please

Hi lovely’s, can you help me with a baby girl names please?

We are having a girl. We already have a girl named Aspen so no more place names and no L names because we don’t like alliteration with our last name which is Lane.

For girls names we currently like Senna (but we just found out it’s a laxative… it was our top name), Alba (hubby doesn’t like it) Kova ( too close to Covid…) so stronger, unique girls names. Nothing pretty or long - two syllables if possible.

Thank you, I would appreciate some ideas

I know you have said no more place names but you could tweak it to - Sennen which is a lovely beach in Cornwall.

Mishmased · 22/09/2020 16:24

@WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat

I think finding a unique name is going to be difficult, many of the names suggest so far are not unique, so my suggestion is

Wheelbarrow nn Wheelie

I'm pretty certain she'll be the only one at school with that name.

But wheelbarrow isn't unique 🤣🤣🤣
florascotia2 · 22/09/2020 16:25

Apologies. Don't mean to be critical. This might just be an issue of phonetic spelling or of words with similar spellings from different cultures, but surely...

Maren is usually MAHrrn (Norwegian)
Silke is usually ZIL-keh or ZIL-kuh (the one I know of is Danish)
Thalia is usually TAH-Lyah or TAH-lee-ah (in modern western Europe) but THA-lee-uh (very soft 'Th', as in 'thought') in Greek, where it originated.
Aiste is usually ASH-tuh (Irish Gaelic)
Brea- I don't know where your version originates, but in Irish/Scottish Gaelic, this would be a version of Brigh (pronounced Bree) or Breagha (Bree-ah). There would be a fada on the first version 'i'.

Ruthietuthie · 22/09/2020 16:26

If you liked Senna, what about Siena? (You could spell it one N like the Italian place, or two nns like the color.

NameChange84 · 22/09/2020 16:44

@florascotia2

Maren - I was basing it on how the country singer pronounces her name.

Silke - I was basing this on a child I taught a few years back, so may be I’m wrong overall.

THAILA not THALIA. I know how Thalia is pronounced but it’s not that unique a name so I didn’t mention it.

Aiste - my Latvian god-daughter’s name. Pronounced as I wrote it.

Brea - American girl I went to school with, she didn’t have Gaelic roots. She was named after a place, “La Brea” and I always thought it was pretty.

NameChange84 · 22/09/2020 16:45

Sorry “the country singer Maren Morris”.

Namechange Thanks for your reply. As I said, I have no wish to be critical.

Aiste is clearly an example of what I suggested might be the case - different cultures/languages having, by chance, names that are spelled the same but pronounced differently. Best wishes to your grand-daughter.

Maren - well, it's a Scandinavian name and the majority of Scandinavian cultures pronounce it as I suggested. But if an American singer chooses to be different, that is obviously her right.

I am sorry re Thaila; I assumed the more usual Thalia. According to Google, it means 'bag' or 'wheelbarrow'. But if a real child has that name, then of course we should be respectful.

La Brea - the name means 'tar pits' and I honestly could not imagine that anyone had named a child after that. But if they have, then we should of course respect the name. It's not the child's fault.
