I have always wanted to use the name Faith for my DD, I was thinking as a middle name but I am now considering using it as her first name. I have reasons for wanting to use it besides just loving the sound and the name itself but I am not particularly religious. Wondering whether people would straight away associate the name with being religious these days? Thoughts please? Smile

Faith is a lovely name and you can have faith as such in alot of things that are personal to you that has nothing to do with religion. Plus it's the first name of the strong, female protagonist in Francis Hardinge's The Lie Tree. So a winner for me

Hagster · 21/09/2020 16:28

I wouldn't automatically associate it as religious but some people might. I would personally say though that that shouldn't matter and if you like it, go for it! Makes me think of Buffy the vampire slayer, in a good way!

Lovely name. Simple, easy to spell and pronounce, and not religious at all to me. Go for it.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! The more I’ve been thinking of it, the more I’m loving it as her first name. DH has brought up perhaps changing the spelling and having Fayth but I like it as it is.

Faith is nice but Fayth is hideous.

daisypond · 21/09/2020 20:07

Faith is nice. I don’t think it’s inherently religious now, any more than Grace is these days. Don’t spell it Fayth, though.

itsjakeandamy · 21/09/2020 21:33

I wouldn't assume someone was religious if they had a child called Faith. It's a nice name.
I would assume they were illiterate if they had a child called Fayth though!

MummaLaw · 21/09/2020 21:36

‘Hideous’ made me chuckle Grin but I do agree, much nicer as it is and I don’t see the need to mess about with spellings

Not a fan of the spelling Fayth!

Although if I ever met a Faith, and was forced to think about it, I’d assume her parents were religious. Same with names like Joy etc (not sure why with Joy - but I do).

But I don’t think it matters what people assume? It’s a sweet name.

purpleme12 · 21/09/2020 21:48

No I don't think people would automatically think religious

I think it's a lovely name

Amy106 · 23/09/2020 01:32

Lovely, timeless name. I would spell it Faith.

alexdgr8 · 23/09/2020 01:47

yes, a good choice, as with all the virtue names.

kellybean18 · 23/09/2020 02:31

I absolutely love it, would be a strong contender if I had another. Definitely use it as a first name :)

danascully96 · 23/09/2020 06:26

It’s actually my favorite virtue name (which is a style I don’t usually like). Faith is just fantastic :)

Emmmie · 23/09/2020 06:29

Faith is a beautiful name!

kellybean18 · 23/09/2020 08:53

I don’t get the religious idea either by the way, you can have faith in just about anything. The religious faith is just one kind? It’s like any name that’s also a word surely?

BabyLlamaZen · 23/09/2020 08:54

Faith is a great name. Also agree it doesn't have to be religious.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 23/09/2020 09:07

Faith is a simple, sweet name.
My immediate thoughts when hearing it are of Faith Evans and religion.

VenusClapTrap · 24/09/2020 07:36

I do think of it as a religious name, yes. I had a friend at school called Faith and she was a vicar’s daughter.
