This is the third name on our list, my other two haven't gone down a storm so I'm guessing this one won't either but interested to know what people think of Drew? Not short for anything.

I like it. Fairly classic known name without being boring or over used.

Finfintytint · 18/09/2020 15:24

It’s alread short for Andrew isn’t it?

Einszwei · 18/09/2020 15:27

For a girl or boy? I would use Drew for a girl but Andrew with nn Drew for a boy.

Falcone · 18/09/2020 15:30

I love it!

Tweetypietwo · 18/09/2020 15:34

I like it! Heard it on a young lad at the weekend, said to dp how nice it was! Does it sound good wirh your surname?

steppemum · 18/09/2020 15:35

It is funny how names give us an immediate emotional response.

i really like this. I think it is because Nancy Drew was a really cool character when I was a kid.

I was thinking boy (and would definitely have it as Andrew with Drew a nn)
But it is also cool for a girl as just Drew

AdoreTheBeach · 18/09/2020 15:35

I love this. I wanted this for a boy’s name- short for Andrew. Had a girl though but didn’t want it for a girl.

PlateTectonics · 18/09/2020 15:36

I like Drew! I know two - one is short for Andrew but afaik the other one is just Drew.

Fallada · 18/09/2020 15:37

No, I always hear and see is as ‘Drew, as if there’s a silent ‘An’ hovering in front.

AdaColeman · 18/09/2020 15:38

I like it as a nn for Andrew, but not as a stand alone name.

jessstan2 · 18/09/2020 15:40

It's short for 'Andrew' and, I suppose, 'Andrea'.

TheSeedsOfADream · 18/09/2020 15:40

I imagine it to be an enforced nickname for an Andrew whose parents think Andy is infra dig. If you just use Drew people will assume he's an Andrew anyway.

len1234 · 18/09/2020 15:41

I like Drew and yet I really dislike Andrew for some reason.

steppemum · 18/09/2020 15:49

what a strange post.

drew is a common nn for Andrew. And used as a name in its own right.
It isn't new either!

itwaseverthus · 18/09/2020 15:57

My son is called Drew, still love it. He is usually the only Drew in classes or hobbies.

itwaseverthus · 18/09/2020 16:17

I've asked Drew if folk assume he is Andrew. He said it's never happened in 17 years.

RhiannonGyspy · 18/09/2020 18:07

@itwaseverthus I wouldn't have assumed it either so that's really good to hear! Thank you!

Love Drew!

MikeUniformMike · 19/09/2020 08:57

I know someone with a Drew. She's a girl.
I know a couple of Andrews nn Drew and I'm not keen.

I always think Drew Blood or Drew Barrymore

Pinkglittery · 19/09/2020 09:03

My son is called Drew. I've had lots of compliments. No one ever assumes it is short for Andrew. I love the name still and mine is 12.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 19/09/2020 09:42

I love it - more for a boy than a girl tbh although get the Drew Barrymore connection of course.

RhiannonGyspy · 19/09/2020 15:24

Ah some really lovely responses here, I was fearing it would get some flack! Thanks all that's really helpful

I much prefer having the option of a full name personally. But then I'm biased as DS is an Andrew (always the full version or "Roo", as other family members are Andy and Drew)

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 20/09/2020 10:54

It's my family surname so just feels very surnamey to me. Like Baker or Hamilton.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 20/09/2020 10:55

Also feels too feminine for a boy and too masculine for a girl.
