Too Disney still?

So I love Elsa but put off by Frozen. Will she have "Let it go" sung at her at every opportunity?

Considering Ailsa too as I am half Scottish but i can't shake the home and away connection (which definitely shows my age) and I am not sure I love it as much as Elsa.

Ailsa is lovely. Ilse also an option if you’re feeling more German? Elsa is very Frozen... but doesnt seem to be very highly used as far as I can tell. Frozen won’t be a huge thing in 20 years.

MrsMyreton · 17/09/2020 15:26

I love both names @Champy87

I'm due DD2 anytime now and we're shortening her name to Elsie. Smile

theamplifier · 17/09/2020 15:28

Frozen won’t be a huge thing in 20 years.

You say that but the baby name Ariel is still very Little Mermaid and that came out in the mid-90s.

ZarasHouse · 17/09/2020 15:29

Elsie? Isla? Orla?

Emelene · 17/09/2020 15:31

Elsa is gorgeous. I think it will be associated with Frozen for a while but it might not put me off?

Ailsa is also lovely. Might it be misheard as Elsa though?

riotlady · 17/09/2020 15:42

I don’t think the Frozen association is necessarily a bad thing- it’s still a pretty normal name (unlike, say Ariel or Esmerelda which are a bit more out there) and kids LOVE Elsa so she’ll not be teased for it.

Dwayne Johnson has two daughters called Tiana and Jasmine, which are both Disney Princess names, but not too in your face.

whatsthebestname · 17/09/2020 15:43

Eliza or Elise instead?

PinkSparkleUnicorns · 17/09/2020 15:44

Elissa?

GreenJellyBean · 17/09/2020 15:45

Elsa is a lovely name! Can imagine it on all ages. I don’t think the Frozen association is a bad thing. Ailsa might lead to pronunciation/spelling confusion but still nice!

TheYeaSayer · 17/09/2020 16:57

I think it’s a beautiful name. I have a Jasmine; no one has ever said anything about a Disney connection to her!

35andThriving · 17/09/2020 17:09

It's lovely Smile

I definitely prefer it to Ailsa.

RemyHadley · 17/09/2020 17:12

I love Ailsa. I do also think of home and away but then I’m over 40 - I can’t imagine that would be an association for children.

Elsa is going to be associated with frozen for decades. I know an Ariel who must be about 50 now and she still hears comments about mermaids.

HowFastIsTooFast · 17/09/2020 17:15

I have a lovely friend called Alsa, a mixture of the two!

Antonin · 17/09/2020 18:01

Elsa is an old name with a history long before Disney so I don’t think it is strongly associated with the film.
A lovely name which is timeless.

aSofaNearYou · 17/09/2020 18:09

Regarding Elsa being a Disney name a long way in the future similar to Ariel (or Belle I would say), I think Elsa is too much of a "normal" name for the Frozen association to stick long term, if that makes sense.

Similar to how we don't all think of Luke Skywalker when we hear the name Luke, even though it's a very famous example. Ariel was more of an unusual name when used in TLM, so the association has stuck.

GroupSects · 17/09/2020 18:20

My friend has an Elsa and an Anna. Although pronounced ‘Anna’ rather than ‘Ahna’
They’re older though so named way before Frozen came out.

Notverybright · 17/09/2020 18:21

Aurora? Grin

MJMG2015 · 17/09/2020 18:22

Definitely too Disney/Home & away 🤣

So many lovely names out there - try again!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/09/2020 18:25

Elsa is a lovely name... I still associate it with Born Free rather than Frozen despite having 2DDs who grew up in the Frozen Era.

Iona is another alternative.

Topseyt · 17/09/2020 18:31

Elsa is fine. I used to associate it with the lioness in Born Free when I was a primary school child. I know that dates me.

Frozen isn't something I ever really think of, though my own DDs might as they were teenagers when it came out.

If you mention Ariel to me I would be more likely to think of the laundry detergent brand name.

whatausername · 17/09/2020 19:29

Elsa is fine, Ailsa is nice. Fuck the pronunciation/spelling whingers. I'm pretty sure they can adapt after being told once. It's a perfectly Scottish name and it is just as valid a culture as any other in the UK.

P.s. nothing wrong with being exposed to something new or different, humans are an adaptable bunch. It's not like you're calling her Dai-Glo Radiator.

whatausername · 17/09/2020 19:30

My ps parrotted my main body of text. Oops. Oh well, it was so worthwhile I said it twice. 😂

weebarra · 17/09/2020 19:33

Love Ailsa, especially if you have Scottish heritage.

user1471464452 · 17/09/2020 19:34

What about Eilidh - Similar sounding and very Scottish ?

daisypond · 17/09/2020 19:37

I like Elsa, and Alisa too.
