These names came up when I was pregnant with DD.

I loved Matilda but it would be shortened to Tilly and that's our cat's name

Ella (and all other variants (Elle, Ellie, etc) were vetoed because name ends in -elle and it seemed a bit narcissistic

Daisy - to me a is a little blonde haired, blue eyed girl. And as DH and I are both dark haired, I didn't see DD being blonde

LM101 · 17/09/2020 21:59

I wouldn’t have daisy as my first impression is someone who is a bit dense (like a dumb blonde). And yes you can prove everyone wrong but I wouldn’t want to hinder my child getting an interview based on their name.

It does happen, they sent the same cv to multiple places with a male and female name. The male name got more interviews. I wouldn’t want to hinder a daughter any more than she already would be.

Daisy is a bit twee, but I do like it. Matilda is a good strong name win some NN choices. I am not a big fan of the name Ella, which sounds a bit wet IMO. I much prefer other E names like Eleanor/Elinor, Eliana/Elliana, Esther, Eve, Elodie and Eloise.

Okayokayok · 17/09/2020 22:12

Ella, because I think its a lovely name that I wouldn't mind being called myself. The other two sound a bit like names my 10 year old would call her stuffed animal toys.

Auto · 17/09/2020 22:13

I like Daisy best. Ella is nice too.

I'm not so keen on Matilda, it sounds a bit harsh to me and I don't like Tilly,

Firebird83 · 17/09/2020 22:27

Matilda

Oly4 · 17/09/2020 22:30

Daisy

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 17/09/2020 22:43

Marguerite? Margot? Margaret? Daisy for short? If you want her to have the ability to rebrand herself if a high court career looks likely. Grin

Not a big fan of Ella to be honest. Prefer Eleanor especially when you read up on the history of the name, some inspiring individuals.

Matilda doesn't really grab me but just personal taste. I've never met anyone known by the full moniker but probably because it's so popular for small girls. Maybe they'll all be Detective
Inspector Matilda in years to come. Wink.

So no help at all really. I like classic names. My children were one of 3 and 4 respectively across their years in early years in London. Really questioned my choices. Neither have classmates with the same names now that we have moved away.

VenusClapTrap · 17/09/2020 22:54

Daisy. Too many Matildas and Ellas.

Brighterthansunflowers · 17/09/2020 23:03

Matilda

It’s a stronger name, and less popular in my experience. Roald Dahl’s Matilda is a brilliant namesake

ifiwasascent · 17/09/2020 23:24

Ella
Matilda
Daisy

MercyBodle · 18/09/2020 14:42

I love Daisy, and as others have said, there are plenty of lawyers etc with names like this.
I also love Matilda, but it feels a little over-used now.
Ella is okay, but doesn't make the same strong statement.

len1234 · 18/09/2020 17:14

I love Ella but I feel like it's become quite plain due to how popular it has been.

tiredanddangerous · 18/09/2020 17:19

Ella is my favourite. I think it's a really pretty name.
I like Matilda but I don't like Tilly.

Cecelori · 19/09/2020 03:18

Not Matilda, my siblings name is a variant and it's frustrating seeing the thousand and one posts on it, it's not uncommon now especially if you're going to use the Roald Dahl spelling so leave it. However I love daisy and Ella equally so difficult one but as a combo daisy Ella is great

ButterflyOfFreedom · 19/09/2020 08:21

All lovely!

Where I am Matilda & Daisy are very popular.
My favourite is Ella.

mrsm43s · 19/09/2020 16:38

Matilda is really, really popular round here, so I'd give that a swerve .

Daisy I really like, and I think its used enough that no-one will bat an eyelid at a lawyer/doctor etc called Daisy in the future.
Ella is just dull. Might be a nice nickname for Fenella or Gabriella etc to add a bit more interest.

I'd go for Daisy out of your 3 choices.

formerbabe · 19/09/2020 16:42

Ella

Much more elegant imo and would suit her at all ages. Matilda and Daisy are a bit more twee and suit children more than adults imo.

Ella also sounds more glamorous and international.

CharlieBoo · 20/09/2020 07:45

Definitely Daisy! It’s very pretty and not as popular as the other two!

badacorn · 20/09/2020 08:55

Matilda because you can use the nickname Tilly and I think it’s the most interesting.

Daisy is one of the less impressive flowers in my opinion and Ella is ok but it’s the end of a longer name to me.

I don’t know any Matildas or Daisys.

But all three are nice names, you couldn’t go wrong.

buntingandstarcharts · 20/09/2020 10:21

Thanks so much for your help everyone SmileSmile

Way too many El names so no to Ella.

Matilda is a name I wonder if people would still like if it wasn't for the film/book.

Daisy is fine. I slightly prefer Daisy.

ddfitzwilliam · 20/09/2020 11:38

Matilda hands down. Much more sophisticated than the others here.
Daisy is too cutesy pie and Ella looks and sounds like half a name. It's like a noise rather than a name.

Snog · 20/09/2020 11:43

I like Mariella

danascully96 · 24/09/2020 21:40

I like Ella, very sweet. Ellie is a potential nn.
