I dont know what im having, and I've really struggled to find a boy's name that i like. Now that I have found one, im worried it doesnt go with my surname.

So please tell what you think of:

Aidan Duncan

Is it weird to pronounce ?

It’s very ‘d’ heavy and as they both end in ‘an’ sound which makes the name as a whole sound very clunky and repetitive.

Also when you say it together, it feels weird saying dan dun (AiDAN DUNcan). I would say it’s a little inelegant, not totally unuseable but there’s definitely something off about it.

emmathedilemma · 11/09/2020 11:03

A bit too clunky for me. I think you need a first name that's either one (could sound quite abrupt) or three syllables or 2 syllables that doesn't end in "an".
e.g. Lewis Duncan, James Duncan, Thomas Duncan, i think you can get away with the 2 syllables.
William Duncan, Alexander / Alex Duncan.....??

HoppyHop · 11/09/2020 11:11

What about keeping the Aidan but using Aiden instead. My Irish nephew uses this spelling. Removes the repeated "an" at the end of both names? Obviously doesn't change the pronunciation though.

TenThousandSpoons · 11/09/2020 11:14

Not James Duncan in case he gets confused with Duncan James.

ClumsyAnnabel · 11/09/2020 11:15

Joseph is a lovely classic name that goes with everything. I agree it's a bit difficult to say Aiden Duncan.

Aristotleatemyhamster · 11/09/2020 11:16

Adrian Duncan would flow better and is relatively similar

Thisismytimetoshine · 11/09/2020 11:17

No, it's awful.

TenThousandSpoons · 11/09/2020 11:18

What about Adrian instead of Aiden? It softens it up a bit.
Arlo Duncan
Adam Duncan
Isaac Duncan
Harry Duncan
In fact most names go well with Duncan.

Unseeliequeen · 11/09/2020 11:30

Bit awkward because of the D heavy sounds and An endings but not terrible.

Unseeliequeen · 11/09/2020 11:32

Also that they're both 2 syllables long adds to the clunkyness in this instance. Someone mentioned Adrian, I agree and think it has a better ring than Aidan Duncan.

DidoAtTheLido · 11/09/2020 13:06

Saying his name will make him sound as if he had a permanent cold.

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2020 13:09

ay-dun dun-cun

It has a touch of the Edward Woodward about it, but not in sa good way.

daisypond · 11/09/2020 13:19

It doesn’t work.

Spied · 11/09/2020 13:21

I don't think it works.

pooopypants · 11/09/2020 13:22

Too much D for me

Cantbutwill · 11/09/2020 13:27

James is better with your surname and in general imo.

Luckingfovely · 11/09/2020 13:33

Sorry - have to agree that it really doesn't sound nice together. Loads of other classic boys names that would go much better with your surname!

ODFOx · 11/09/2020 14:06

I think it's ok. Aiden is a lovely name. It is slightly clunky to say with your surname but so what?
When have any of us even considered whether the name of someone we've been introduced to makes a pleasingly musical sound with their surname. Apart from when choosing a baby name it doesn't enter anyone's head!
Other names that are a bit like Aiden (at least in my head) that you might also like: Callum, Elliot, James, Peter, Gregory, Adam, Ryan, Liam, Cameron, Joshua,. I think some of these are less and some more clunky than Aiden: but they are all, including Aiden, lovely names!
Good luck OP Smile

It is a bit clunky, James is lovely.

chatterbugmegastar · 11/09/2020 15:16

I like Duncan. Don't like it with a dan at the end of the first name

sorryforswearing · 11/09/2020 15:52

It doesn’t flow I’m afraid because of the same sound at the end of both names.

Lilice · 11/09/2020 20:30

Thanks everyone for sharing your opinion and your suggestions, really appreciate it 🙏

What about Alexander?

itsjakeandamy · 11/09/2020 22:44

I think it's ok. It's not the easiest name but I don't think anyone would think about the slight clunkiness after the first time of hearing it to be honest.

Jd1313 · 12/09/2020 03:38

James Duncan is much better and classirt
