How many threads do you need to start on these names? Have already given my thoughts previously.

Whatthebloodyell · 09/09/2020 22:06

Edith can be Edith or Edie. Edie can only be Edie. Edie can be mispronounced as Eddie.

ShalomToYouJackie · 09/09/2020 22:08

You've done so many threads on these names 😁

As PP said, I'd go for Edith as it can be shortened to Edie

Elieza · 09/09/2020 22:24

Edith for sure. People will think Edie is Eddie and expect a boy to appear.

Plus autocorrect puts the extra d in whether you like it or not.

I’d think Edie was short for Edwina. Not Edith. I’m seeing Ab Fab characters now and singing that wheels on fire song...

Flymetothestars · 09/09/2020 22:27

Both are lovely

Firebird83 · 10/09/2020 16:34

Edith nn Edie

len1234 · 10/09/2020 16:45

Edith is nice. I think Edie sounds like a nickname and I could see it being mistaken for Eddie.

Whatsyourflava · 10/09/2020 16:48

I like both

SE13Mummy · 10/09/2020 16:50

Edith. I much prefer names with definite endings.

WiserOlder · 10/09/2020 16:52

Well plenty of people havent seen this before now.

I prefer Edith because it can be edith or edie but edie can only really be edie.

TheChristmasPrincess · 10/09/2020 17:14

Edith is probably more fashionable at the moment as it’s sweet and vintage. I personally feel it’s kinda clunky old lady-ish but it’s not the worse of the lot and it could possibly grow on me.

Edie is a little less dated, super sweet and cute. Probably only downside is that written down it looks like Eddie, and maybe it’s a little trendy/hipster-ish because of the Edie Sedgwick connection.

Have the best of both worlds and name her Edith with Edie as a nickname 🙂

MsQueenInTheNorth · 10/09/2020 17:21

If I saw Edie written down I would assume that a girl called Edie was going to appear. It’s really not unusual enough for me to think it was a boy called Eddie and someone had written it down wrong!

I would go for Edith though. I’m not a fan of ‘cutesy’ names for girls (Edie/Evie/Maisie/Milly) unless they’re short for something as I personally wouldn’t like to be called one of them as a grown woman. Your daughter might completely disagree with me and go by Edie for her entire life, but as least you’ll have given her the option?

mabelandivy · 11/09/2020 09:16

I love the name Edith. I wanted to name my DD Edith but husband didn't like it. It's my grandmother's middle name so a special meaning. I prefer Edith to Edie - you can always use Edie as a nn for Edith x

PelicanDeuce · 11/09/2020 20:09

Edith is granny chic. Edie is rock n roll cool.

Go for which one instinctively appeals.

I have one of the above.

missmouse101 · 11/09/2020 20:12

Edith is very frumpy. Edie is nice.

daisypond · 11/09/2020 20:14

Edith. Edie is a bland non-name.

cansu · 11/09/2020 20:17

If you envisage using Edie, but like a more rown up name go for Edith and use Edie as a nn.

purplejungle · 11/09/2020 20:35

Not everything can pronounce 'th' 🤷‍♀️

Sophoa · 11/09/2020 20:48

Edith is a horrible name. Awful. Edie feels much fresher and prettier
