Full name for Ron

Hi there, we've settled on Ron (Rony, Ronnie) as the name for our son but I want a full name. He'll be British/Slavic/Greek origin.
So far I've got
Ronald (Mc Donald?)
Ronan (too Irish?)
Myron (rhymes with Moron?)
Cameron (meh)
Roland (like the name but don't think it can be shorten to Ron)

I don't want to use Ron as a full name as culturally in Slavic countries you should have a full name. Any thoughts and ideas would be massively appreciated. Thank you!

Definitely scratch Cameron, waaay too much of a stretch. The ending isn't pronounced the same as Ron.

Finfintytint · 07/09/2020 02:20

Aaron?
Ronal?

brushandmop · 07/09/2020 02:36

Ron is short for Ronald

That's it

Tavannach · 07/09/2020 02:56

Ronan is nice, but it isn't the same sound as Ron.

Juanmorebeer · 07/09/2020 03:01

Aaron

eaglejulesk · 07/09/2020 03:01

Agree with a pp - Ron is short for Ronald (my Dad's name)

RainbowMum11 · 07/09/2020 03:12

Ron = Ronald, not MacDonald but Weasley - far more cool!!!

len1234 · 07/09/2020 03:27

I love Roland and definitely think it can be shortened to Ron.

fallfallfall · 07/09/2020 04:11

roland shortened is rolly.
ronald is the only short version of ron imho
camron would be cammie later cam

Astronica · 07/09/2020 04:57

I think Roland is a great option, and shortened to Ron works very well. Some people will tell you that there are rules about these things (eg only Ronald gives nn Ron) however there actually aren't any rules ... just habits of the past. Start a new trend!

I also really like Ronan and think it works well for Ron.

I dislike Myron, and Cameron is okay and sort of works. I'd stick with Roland or Ronan though.

TheWashingMachine · 07/09/2020 04:57

Veronica?

ulanbatorismynextstop · 07/09/2020 05:07

Ronnie

mocktail · 07/09/2020 05:25

I only know one Ron, and he's actually a Ronan, but he's Irish. I think for you Ronald is the best option.

Panticles · 07/09/2020 05:43

Another vote for Aaron

BikeRunSki · 07/09/2020 05:47

I know a French Laurent who is known as Ronnie. Does t really work with Lawrence though.

user32723 · 07/09/2020 05:48

I know a couple of adult Ron's who are Aaron.

ivykaty44 · 07/09/2020 05:57

Nelly, is Helen, Jim is James, Betty is Elizabeth Bill for William

So give whatever name you like and call your boy Ron

What would you do with Ivy, it’s only 3 letters but an entire name - how would you get round that?

Toomboom · 07/09/2020 06:06

Ron is short for Ronald [ my uncles name ]. Why do you want a longer name if you are just going to shorten it? Just go for the shorter version in the first place.

micc · 07/09/2020 06:59

I like Roland, you can literally shorten any name to what you want. Like how some people go by their middle name. I know someone who is called John, hes the third John as his dad and grandad are John. And they call him Trey 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️🤣
I dont immediately think Ronald McDonald, I think more Harry Potter which is not a bad reference! Plus if you are literally always calling him by his NN its doesnt matter. If my DC is a girl we are going with Roxana, mainly because we like Roxy. I dont think my OH especially will ever say Roxana!! Haha he never calls our DD by her full name. I am the same as you I think it's nice to have a formal name.

Solasum · 07/09/2020 07:02

Byron

MiniMaxi · 07/09/2020 07:05

@micc I think Trey might mean “three” or “third born” potentially?

OP I think Ronald is the most logical long form if you like that name. Ronan is a lovely name but depends if it bothers you about the lack of Celtic roots!

micc · 07/09/2020 07:12

@minimaxi yeah that was there idea :) I think it's a good idea, everyone is always really shocked when they find out his name is John Haha just an example you dont always have to have a predictable nn :)

Grufallosfriends · 07/09/2020 07:17

You'd call the child Ivy. Hmm

Grufallosfriends · 07/09/2020 07:18

Anyway, I prefer Ronald. Ron is a natural shortening.
