What would you think of three daughters named Charlotte, Lily, and Genevieve (Ginny)?

Do they go alright? I also like Violet, Eva, Vivian, Virginia, Anna, and Georgia. I don't want to be called pretentious, so please advise. Sweet and elegant and springy are all good characteristics in my book.

For boys, I like Alexander, Henry, Daniel, and Samuel. Any suggestions there?

Alexander James is probably my first pick. I am also a big Anne of Green Gables fan, so would Daniel Gilbert be cute? Or can Gilbert still not be redeemed even in the middle spot despite such a cute namesake?

Love all the names except Virginia and Georgia.

MikeUniformMike · 06/09/2020 19:26

Not keen on Genevieve or Virginia. I don't like Eva and Vivian is a man's name.
All the others are fine.

Lavenderblues · 06/09/2020 19:47

The French pronunciation of Geneviève is beautiful. But I've heard it pronounced as Ge ne veev Shock

Lavenderblues · 06/09/2020 19:48

in the UK

DramaAlpaca · 06/09/2020 20:01

If I were Lily I might feel short changed that my sisters had long, flouncy names and I didn't.

Vivian is a male name. It should be Vivien or Vivienne for a girl.

Your boys' names are all fine.

danascully96 · 06/09/2020 20:03

Yeah, it’d be the English pronunciation 😂 Which I love, but I can understand why people don’t. Genevieve has a striking legend and the name sounds wonderfully medieval to me... but Anna would be a safer bet and ruffle less feathers. That’s why they’re both on the list to gauge reactions. Also, I guess I should mention I’m American, so names like Vivian, Evelyn, and Kit are still considered pretty feminine over here, which is a pity because Kit is an adorable name for a boy. Hopefully that changes with GOT’s popularity.

It's Jennuh-veev in the UK. Beautiful as a french name but not in the UK. The same goes for names like Gisele, Elodie, Marianne and Amelie.

Grufallosfriends · 06/09/2020 21:19

Geneviève is pronounced Jennuh-veev ?Shock

I would say Je ne vi ève.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/09/2020 22:12

I don’t think any of the go to be honest. If that bothers you.
I’d expect Lily to have sisters named something like Poppy Daisy Holly Molly
Charlotte to have sisters named Elizabeth Emily. Jessica. Catherine. Amelia.
Genevieve to have sisters nAmed something like Dorothy. Penelope. Cordelia.
Eleanor

danascully96 · 06/09/2020 22:37

Thank you for your perspective! Lily & Ginny (Genevieve) are Harry Potter inspired, and Charlotte is a literary vintage in the same vein. Although I can see how they're discordant. But do you like the names individually?

OP posts:
Onestepup · 06/09/2020 23:15

Charlotte, Lily, Anna and Georgia would fit with each other well in any combination.

I tend to think of Ginny as short for Virginia rather than Genevieve. I've heard Jenny and Evie as nicknames for Genevieve.

I like Alexander. Daniel and Henry of the boys options. Alexander Daniel or Alexander Henry would be great names.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/09/2020 23:20

Charlotte and Lily are okay. I’m not fussed on Genevieve. It’s just different opinions though

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 07/09/2020 00:25

I really like Genevieve. I know a couple, one goes by Evie and one goes by Veve.

greenteafiend · 07/09/2020 01:30

I think people are really really really overthinking the whole "siblings' names must MATCH EXACTLY in style" thing.

In the real world, absolutely nobody would think that Charlotte, Lily and Genevieve don't go together. They are all traditional, normal, quite pretty girls' names.

I mean, if you called one child Lexi-Grayce and another child Charlotte, or if you had a Seraphine and a Bob, that might sound a bit odd. But there really is nothing non-matching about the three names proposed.

I really like Genevieve, but be prepared for slight pronunciation differences (personally I have mostly heard Jen-uh-veev) and for the fact that she might morph into Gennie/Jenny etc. day to day. If you don't like Jenny etc. I would choose something else.

Astronica · 07/09/2020 05:03

I think Charlotte, Lily and Genevieve are lovely.
I also like Alexander and Henry. Daniel and Samuel are nice enough. Daniel Gilbert works really well, though I'd be tempted to use the gorgeous Gilbert as a first name. I like Gil for short.

danascully96 · 07/09/2020 06:16

Wow! Thank you💕 I appreciate the warm responses. Glad to know there’s a fellow Gilbert lover 😉 I like names that sound as though they belong in a novel, which is why mine are found throughout literature and legend! Evie is a sweet nicknames for Genevieve... maybe I should choose that over Ginny. I imagine I’ll have a redhead like myself so I thought the nn Ginny might conjure up a cinnamony feel, but Evie is delightfully elegant!

Unseeliequeen · 08/09/2020 17:09

I like all of the names on your list.
Evie is lovely but becoming very popular along with Evelyn, Eve, Eva Ava, Edith, Edie.

(Evie, Eva and Evelyn, Ava are all top 50 names atm)

danascully96 · 08/09/2020 19:08

Hmm, yeah, I’m not too bothered by popularity, but that is important to know all the same. I’m mainly worried that Genevieve is too much, even though I don’t consider it all that frilly. I do think a nickname would make it casual enough!

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 08/09/2020 19:35

I think it sounds heavy and cumbersome. I'm not keen on long names anyway, but I think it is popular because of the Eve sound at the end.
Jennifer might be an alternative.

danascully96 · 09/09/2020 00:29

You are definitely steering me away from Genevieve, Mike! I appreciate your sensible approach to naming as I am very romantic, so I need to be hemmed in sometimes.

I also like Sabrina a lot too, but it's not mentioned in my list above. And I really adore the nickname Ginny, but Genevieve and Virginia seem to evoke such strong reactions and I don't know if I want to put my child through such turmoil... Not a fan of Imogen, either.

Sabrina is really fetching to me right now (and I like witchy-ish names), so maybe I'll replace Genevieve with Sabrina :)

Might out me but I know two sisters, now adults, who are Fel city and Gen vieve and the names back then seemed a bit try-hard. Their brother had a short snappy sounding name (it wasn't Todd, but something a bit like it).
If you like the name OP, use it. I like Charlotte and Lily.

Not sure about Gilbert, Gil is cool but might people say Jill? Oh, actually Lil and Gil might be a bit too much.

I'm sure I should be doing something...

TheChristmasPrincess · 09/09/2020 11:15

Lily, Charlotte and Genevieve are beautiful together. Theyre very feminine and elegant. Not pretensious at all. Lily and Charlotte might be considered a little unoriginal and ‘common’/popular as I think they’re both in the top 20 girl names at the moment.

Your other girls names are fine, although I feel Anna and Virginia are a little puritanical in comparison.

I think Alexander, James, Henry and Samuel really compliment your girls names. I’m not so sure about Daniel. I suppose it works, but the others work better. I’m not a fan of Gilbert personally (very clunky and old fashioned) but there is a kind of cuteness to Daniel Gilbert.

Flymetothestars · 09/09/2020 11:18

Love violet

Hate Gene..... it's so frilly and long. I don't like nickname Ginny either.

Flymetothestars · 09/09/2020 11:19

I completely agree with your description @MikeUniformMike - the name sounds heavy to me too

MikeUniformMike · 09/09/2020 11:46

Sabrina is ok, but Sabina/Sabine is less witchy.
