I just realised the data is out. Had a look for my dc names as you do. Bug surprise that both girl names have dropped out of the top 100. A bit disappointed as I thought they were more well liked.
Any surprises?

Can't believe Ada is on the list.

DipSwimSwoosh · 06/09/2020 07:29

@KatherineJaneway

Can't believe Ada is on the list.

It's due to the popularity of Peaky Blinders as Ada is character in that

DoTheMaccaroni · 06/09/2020 08:45

It’s funny to me that you find it disappointing that their names have dropped out of the top 100! My daughter is one of 9 born over 2017/18 with her name and this year her name isn’t on the list at all. Which means there were 2 or less born with her name in 2019 and I’m thrilled Grin

Everyone who meets her loves her name so that’s enough for me 💜

DoTheMaccaroni · 06/09/2020 08:49

Darker greener has finally been updated with this years list now if anyone wants to check it out. Tap on the graph to see the number of babies born each year with whichever name you’re looking at 🙂

ellenpartridge · 06/09/2020 08:51

Can't believe Ada is on the list? I know 4 Adas born within a couple of months of my daughter! I was surprised it wasn't higher!

DipSwimSwoosh · 06/09/2020 08:55

I know, I always find it funny that people want a really rare name. I always think popular names are well liked because they are nice. I love Olivia but wasn't sure about shortenings.
Anyway, my dd names are in the 80s (of top 100), and higher but only in Wales.

The move I am surprised with is Freya.

Freya peaked about 10 years and then was slowly falling in popularity but not uncommon but then 2019 and bang! Surprise resurgence.

Do we think Arthur will get to number 1? The rise seems fairly unstoppable.

DipSwimSwoosh · 06/09/2020 09:46

I know a lot of baby Freyas. I don't know any Arthurs though.

I always find it interesting to add up the different spellings. I think Theo and its different variations would be no.1, also Isabelle.

I'm always surprised there isn't more movement within the 10 ten names - why DO parents choose Oliver year on year when there will
Be loads of other kids in his year with the same name?

thetangleteaser · 06/09/2020 10:06

I love that my baby’s name isn’t top 100! Part of the reason I liked it so much, it was on an upward trajectory so I’m so pleased it’s not made the list😂

zigaziga · 06/09/2020 10:09

According to Darkgreener Oliver makes up less than 0.8% of all babies so say 1.6% of all boys so it’s more likely than not that there will be only one Oliver in a class (or none!) and only 1 or 2 in a whole year.

We have no Olivers in my DC’s year but several other duplicates, two lots of two boys with pretty popular names (Top 10), two boys with a name that is only just within the Top 100 and two girls with a name that is outside of the Top 200!

mum2jakie · 06/09/2020 10:34

My kids are fairly spaced out in age and I believe Oliver has been top name throughout. For all of them there have only been two Olivers in each of their year groups. One of my boys has two Jensons in his class! Just choose a name you love, rather than worrying about popularity.

ivfbeenbusy · 06/09/2020 10:36

@zigaziga

Ah that makes sense!

I'm pregnant with twins so coming up with two names at once is proving hard!

DoTheMaccaroni · 06/09/2020 12:11

@DipSwimSwoosh I wanted something rare because I have a popular name (common in early 90s) and very common surname. I hated that growing up and I found it very boring that so many of my peers had the same names. So I wanted to avoid that.

My daughter has a name which is very similar to a few classic girl and boy names so it doesn’t sound really odd. I’m always getting genuine compliments for her name and not the “oh... that’s different” kind.

Flymetothestars · 06/09/2020 12:58

I'm surprised by Tommy's popularity in 2019

Looking at DarkGreener, It seems like Arlo and Ezra have now peaked. Love both names

SoManyActivities · 06/09/2020 13:01

I'm surprised my daughters name is still not in the top 100. It's seems quite popular now, I know a couple in real life and has also been used by celebrities/Instagrammers - some of the ones in the top 100 seem a lot less common. I guess its regional as well though.

KatherineJaneway · 06/09/2020 15:43

@ivfbeenbusy Thank you, I don’t watch it so was unaware.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 07/09/2020 00:18

I’m not surprised with Ada at all. Been growing in popularity recently, people looking for an alternative to Ava.

VenusClapTrap · 07/09/2020 07:12

Oliver surprises me every year. I don’t know any, and I don’t think there’s a single one in my dc’s primary school.

I’ve never met one either.
