Thinking of Cassie got our DD but DHs mother is thinks that it's best to call her Cassandra and use Cassie as a nickname. I did the same with DD1 (Bea - Elizabeth) but doesn't even go by the name I originally wanted for her as she is Effie to everyone, which I was disappointed by. wondering in your thoughts on whether it's worth it or if Cassie is a good enough name by itself??

Cassie is fine. I also really like Callie.

Effie is cute.

hradvice · 29/08/2020 15:05

What about Cassie as a nn for Cassia or Calista?

DragonPie · 29/08/2020 15:07

I like Calista, it’s quite cool. How about Calliope to go completely off centre!

amyc89 · 29/08/2020 16:02

I love Cassie, I think it goes lovely with Effie too... I like the suggested of Cassie as nn for Cassia x

Without being mean, you can't plan a nickname as you've discovered. They usually form of their own accord (despite this MM obsession with "choosing" them) so if you've your heart set on Cassie and your DP likes Cassie then go for that.

Spied · 29/08/2020 20:06

Cassie as stand alone or put Calista on bc.

wishing3 · 29/08/2020 20:07

I think Cassie is lovely in its own right.

TruffleMama · 29/08/2020 20:41

Do you like the name Cassandra?

I think you should go with Cassie. It's the name you picked because you like it. You don't want to regret not going with it.

You didn't choose Cassandra, and she may not get the nickname "Cassie" that you want her to have.

I can't remember which TV show it was now, but there was a character called Cassandra and her nickname/shortened version was "Sand" (pronounced 'Sarnd' - like Sandra without the "ra" at the end).

I'm a pregnant FTM and a great piece of advice my best mate gave me (she has two DC is don't let family/friends influence your name decision. Her brothers didn't like the name she picked for DS, but she loved it and didn't care what her brothers thought.

I know a female Cassidy who goes by Cassie?
Otherwise, I'd say do either Cassia or Cassandra on the Birth Certificate.

namenerd · 29/08/2020 21:51

I think Cassie is beautiful on it's own 😍 also love Cassia as well for a girlier twist ❤

Frazzled2207 · 29/08/2020 21:53

I like Cassie but dislike Cassandra. Wasn’t there one in only fools and horses?
Cassia or Calista are nicer options.

DragonPie · 29/08/2020 22:02

You know what you need to do? Don’t discuss your name choices with anyone! Just choose what you like.

badg3r · 29/08/2020 22:09

I like them all! Going against the MN grain a bit though - I have a given name which is an abbreviation of my name on my BC. I have always been known by my given name. Many people don't know what my longer name is. It is possible to have a longer name and a given name but I think the given name needs to be seen as a "real" name too, if you see what I mean. So I think you would maybe have more luck with Cassie/Cassandra than Bea/Elizabeth.

Viletta · 07/09/2020 18:24

Can Cassie be short for Catherine

Astronica · 08/09/2020 03:55

Since you already have an Elizabeth called Effie, I would use a longer form for Cassie. While Cassie is fine on its own, it would mean that one sister has a formal name and the other a nickname type name. So either they're both Effie/Bea and Cassie on the bc, or they're Elizabeth and Cassandra/Calista/Cassia on the bc.

I do really like Catherine and Caroline for Cassie too, but you run the risk of getting a different nickname as happened with Effie.

Or you could use Beatrice or Beatrix this time and get your Bea!
