hi all,

I'm done naming babies of my own, but came across this website which helps to find common names in different countries/cultures and thought it might be helpful here!

Didn't work at all for mine. It suggested a lot that would be complete non-starters and missed almost all the classic cross-over names that are popular options with bicultural families. I suppose it's a crude tool that probably works better for some languages than others.

I think a better approach if you're stuck for ideas is creative use of something like Behind the Name, look through all the listed options for one of the languages and Ctrl+f each page for the other language to find the names which are labelled for both. Or just read through the whole list and note the ones you think could work in the other language. Discuss with your partner - presumably at least one of you is bilingual/bicultural. Biblical names are often a good bet, at least when you are dealing with two European languages.

I've named two bilingual babies and it can be a real pain in the arse as once you've ruled out the ones that don't work in language a or language b and the ones that one or both of you don't like, you may be left with very few options. My heart goes out to families working with three or more languages!

Worked for mine but the name suggestions were ones that were bonkers or only worked in one of the languages.
