Lavinder is lovely. Reminds me of the sweet girl in Matilda.

Cheesypea · 24/08/2020 23:26

I like lettuce, my daughter thinks I'm bonkers.

Whatsyourflava · 24/08/2020 23:30

The nickname Lav would be a dealbreaker for me

But then people are called Louise with nickname Lou ... so .....

How about Plum

whatausername · 25/08/2020 00:40

Astor - means hawk which I was surprised to learn
Marisol - literally translated mar would be sea and sol would be sun

Sage seems to be the go to hippy/naturey/alternative name. Lavender is pretty but not a good first name (Lav, Lavvy, ugh).

@Cheesypea

I like lettuce, my daughter thinks I'm bonkers.
I think the name is usually spelt Lettice, which I agree is lovely.

OP there was another thread about the name Sage for a girl recently. Lots of people said that you can't call a child Sage in 2020 (in the UK) because everyone will think of SAGE, the commitee advising the government on coronavirus. I'm surprised no one has made the connection on this thread.

whatausername · 25/08/2020 01:19

I made the connection but figured in a couple of years SAGE will have been forgotten by most people (look how quickly they forgot lockdown rules...). @BrookeLively if you like Sage go for it but I don't find it all that special. Not that my view matters much in this instance.

Rubybluesy · 25/08/2020 01:24

Mixed herbs?

Steviestix · 25/08/2020 03:41

Not keen on Lavender due to the Lav nn

Laurel is nicer as are Iris and Violet.

OhTheRoses · 25/08/2020 07:44

Zinnia is lovely. As is Hebe.
Mirabel nn Plum

Cbeebiesrehab · 25/08/2020 07:53

I like Lavender and I’m surprised so many people are worried about the Lav potential. I know a Lavinia-never been called Lav. Willy doesn’t put people off William, or Lou off Louise/Louisa. If you want a diminutive just called her V or ViVi or something, people will follow suit. My favourite of this style name is Primrose nn Posy

nodtik · 25/08/2020 07:53

I know a Lavender - Lulu for short.

It doesn't have to be Lav!

edwardson · 25/08/2020 08:47

I have never heard the name Sorrel before as some previous posters have mentioned. I immediately think snow boots and mushrooms, but those are pretty cool associations Smile

sunyla · 25/08/2020 17:59

Sage is at the top of my list. Not a huge fan of Lavender as a first name.

Ivy
Clover
Hazel
Flora
Florence

Jessbow · 25/08/2020 20:14

Same theme?

Bryony?
Bryonia?

whatausername · 26/08/2020 01:33

Sorrel is growing on me but it's butt-ugly in my accent. Stick with Lavender. If anyone calls her Lav smile and politely correct them. Most nicknames, and not everybody has one remember, tend to form naturally from something unrelated to their given name.

eggandbeanss · 26/08/2020 01:43

I like lavender

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/08/2020 01:47

I know a teenage Sorrel who is lovely.
I'm not keen on Sage or Lavendee.

How about Rosemary?

namenerd · 28/08/2020 01:36

Love love love the name Sage 😍
Perhaps you may like Eden, Posie or Acacia also ❤
