"th" names a problem

I may be over thinking this but has anyone ever been put off a th name because of the way people pronounce th as 'f'?

I never really gave it a thought until Stacey in Eastenders named her baby Arthur but he never got called anything other than arfff-ah

2 of my favourite boys names are Theo and Arthur. I also like Thea for a girl but I do worry about people calling him "Fee-oh." Anyone else think like this??

I am a chronic over thinker. I talked my way out of Rory because I worried in case my child struggled saying their R's. Lots of names have an R and i would still use them but I thought two R's would just be too irritating for a child with a speech impediment 😬

DH's brother is Theodore but has always gone by Ted for this exact reason.

DS1 talks endlessly about "me best mate feo" at preschool but he also pronounces trousers as "trazziz" so I have no hope.

Yes! My name ends in 'th' and sounds horrible when people pronounce it with an 'f'. My DH is not British and struggles with that sound (he calls me by a nickname instead Grin) as would most other foreigners as it's not a common sound in other languages except Greek maybe?

I have a Theo. He's 18 now. But I remember him coming home from school (reception or year 1. Can't recall) and saying, "Mummy, you've been spelling my name wrong. It's F-E-O. My friends told me."

Yep. I live in Essex and no one seems able to pronounce Th properly apart from me (lm not from Essex). I’ve already said to my partner Feo isn’t a name we could ever consider Wink

Same, my DH and I moved to Essex so now we have to practice saying all potential names in an Essex accent!. Most of my friends here have said they've avoided "th" names

Hadn't thought about this! Where I used to live, 'th' was 'f' and the 't' sound didn't exist. My Nana despised it when people missed out the T in my name! I solved it by moving to a place where 'ee' is pronounced 'eh' instead. Ha.

@excitedemmi you have to stick your tongue out quite far and put your top teeth (teef) on your tongue.
