I can only think of Red Adair.

cafedesreves · 17/08/2020 19:47

@MikeUniformMike

Probably not going to go with that!

Makes me think of Johnny Adair.

TheFoz · 17/08/2020 19:49

That’s a common surname where I come from.

minnieok · 17/08/2020 19:49

Red Adair was famous for putting out oil well fires in the 90's

Othering · 17/08/2020 19:50

You.

Othering · 17/08/2020 19:51

Dair Dair.

StCharlotte · 17/08/2020 19:52

Can you choose a name that has meaning for you?

StCharlotte · 17/08/2020 19:54

A middle name I mean. Our middle names are so rarely spoken, it doesn't really matter if it doesn't "match" or trip off the tongue.

ToyKitchenSink · 17/08/2020 19:54

Maxim
Gray
Sebastian
Magnus
Jude
Fin/ Finlay
William
Dominic
Nathaniel
Tobias

@StCharlotte i have a few ideas, was just wondering if there were any I'd missed. He'll have 2 middle names, the second one is a family name.

@TheFoz

That’s a common surname where I come from.
It's definitely more common as a surname. But I think it sounds good as a first name too. It's the Scottish form of Edgar.

Hugh? Jk Wink Adair is lovely.

Jonathan,
Frederick,
Charles,
Peter,
Cameron,
Innes,
Sebastian,
Owen

finallychangedmyusername · 17/08/2020 21:14

Agree with the above, Adair Cameron sounds good.

Or

Adair Benjamin
Adair Gregory
Adair Frederick
Adair Sebastian
Adair Christopher

I think three syllables and with hard consonant sounds works well.

Whatthebloodyell · 17/08/2020 21:19

I’ve only heard of ‘Robin Adair’.

I can’t see the point of a middle name unless it is a name you love or a name that has meaning.

DramaAlpaca · 17/08/2020 22:30

I like Adair James.

cafedesreves · 17/08/2020 23:21

Thanks all! There's a few there that I love and one were already using as the second middle name 😄

Mad Dog

Crabbo · 17/08/2020 23:29

Personally I don’t see the point in middle names unless they’re family names/named after someone etc. They have no purpose otherwise.

midsomermurderess · 17/08/2020 23:45

Barclay, or Bryce.

HarrietM87 · 19/08/2020 07:59

Johnny Adair 🤦‍♀️

Since it’s a surname I think you need to be careful your child doesn’t end up with 3 surname sounding names. If you’re definitely going with it (I just couldn’t as the associations are so bad) then I’d choose a classic first name rather than say Cameron, like John, Edward, Michael.

cafedesreves · 19/08/2020 08:38

@HarrietM87
Thanks for your post... it's made me second guess it a bit and feel a bit sad. 🙁
It's not just a surname, it appears on lots of lists of Scottish baby names, that is how we came to consider it.

I know there is one person with the surname who is disliked, but are the connotations really "so bad"? Could you explain what you mean?
There's also Adair Turner, the chemist Adair Crawford, these people aren't bad as far as I know?
