Franklin or Francis?

Hello, me and DW will have a DS3 coming in a few weeks time - we’ve decided to go with Frank/Frankie as a nickname but are unsure on which of the long versions to write down on the BC.

We first said Francis as I am a fan of the MMA fighter Francis Ngannou, and it is the name of DW’s grandad who sadly passed last year. However, we are doubting it might be a bit too “wet” to use so we are considering Franklin also, something that seems to sound much stronger and masculine IMO. So which do we go for? One that directly names after these two things, or one that offers a slight variation on it? Will go with George for the middle name, surname is Smith. Older brothers are Alexander and Vincent. Thanks Smile

Francis.
Franklin is frankly awful.

Love Franklin

I have a Frankie and it's just that on his birth certificate

DramaAlpaca · 16/08/2020 17:37

What @MikeUniformMike said ^^

emmathedilemma · 16/08/2020 18:25

Why don’t you just call him Frank, Frankie as a nn. afraid I don’t Franklin or Francis.

SpeedofaSloth · 16/08/2020 21:14

Francis, definitely.

SadSack39 · 16/08/2020 21:16

Franklin defo.. i agree Francis is a bit wet sorry

CatsArePeopleToo · 16/08/2020 23:01

As long as he's called Frank, it doesn't matter

Twizbe · 17/08/2020 16:45

Francis for sure, but I'm biased as it was my granddad's name and is my mum and mine's middle names (spelt Frances obvs)

I always think of Frankie as a girls name though

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2020 16:47

Just call him Frankie or Frank on BC?

I like both but I've always loved Frances for a girl so would favour that!

Cbeebiesrehab · 17/08/2020 17:09

Definitely Franklin

sweetbirdofjuice · 17/08/2020 17:37

Francis, definitely.

averythinline · 17/08/2020 17:44

I think Franklin works better with Smith maybe due to the double s' of Francis
Not keen on Frank/Frankie bit plain compared to siblings names..

Onestepup · 17/08/2020 17:46

Francis, definitely.

Franklin is a bit wet and reminds me of the name Lynne (nothing wrong with Lynne but only as a woman's name). Franklin sounds as if it were a hyphenated name, Frank-Lynne.

Ontopofthesunset · 17/08/2020 17:46

Definitely Francis or just Frank. I really dislike Franklin - it sounds like one of those terrible punchlines to a joke. "Do you like Franklin?" "I don't know, I've never frankled"

Onestepup · 17/08/2020 17:47

BTW yes, women can be called Frances, but Francis is an established man's name.

stellarfox · 17/08/2020 18:23

We are considering Frank for a boy but I’m not keen on any other the longer names so my choice would be to use Frank on the birth certificate

LetItGoHome · 17/08/2020 22:41

Frank. It's a great stand alone name that works throughout life, young or old.

Porridgeoat · 17/08/2020 22:45

Just frank

The s s is a bit odd

resm · 17/08/2020 22:52

Definitely Francis, especially if it would also be honouring a family member. Francis George sounds very distinguished and official. I have many Frank/Frankie male relatives and they are all Francis on BC so I’m biased, but think it’s a good, solid name for a boy of any age to carry off.

Mouthfulofquiz · 17/08/2020 22:53

I prefer Francis. I know one and he definitely isn’t ‘wet’. A proper sporty strong willed lad!

SidesteppinTheRona · 18/08/2020 00:11

I like them both!

Personally I'd pick Francis though, as that was my DGF and my DFIL's names, and my DD has middle name Frances.

August20 · 18/08/2020 00:19

I like Francis better. It's doesn't sound 'wet' to me and there is a nice family connection.

Franklin is ok but I always think of the North American turtle books.

Kote · 18/08/2020 00:26

Francis

Watsitallabout · 18/08/2020 00:49

Francis, not liking Frankling at all myself

VenusClapTrap · 18/08/2020 07:59

Francis is much nicer.
