Just curious! I'm 33 weeks pregnant and decided on baby's first name at around 21-22 weeks, but took a few weeks longer to settle on a middle name.

About an hour after they were born.

Firebird83 · 15/08/2020 22:46

After the 20 week scan when we knew he was a boy.

stardance · 15/08/2020 22:54

Mine were both 5 days old

Longdistance · 15/08/2020 23:01

We just put Dr in front of their names.

So, Dr Harriet Smythe (not their actual name) Blush

happytoday73 · 15/08/2020 23:05

After born... So we knew they suited name...

SephrinaX · 15/08/2020 23:14

DS1 - had a shortlist of 2 possible first names, and decided a couple hours after he was born. His 2 middle names were decided when I was about 6 months pregnant.

DS2 - had a shortlist of 3 first names, but didn't use any of them. Blood pressure dropped during C Section and almost passed out when a different name popped into my head. Told husband in recovery room and we went with that. Middle names were decided in advance.

For my youngest son before I even knew he was a boy I knew what I wanted to call baby if a boy.

Erictheavocado · 16/08/2020 09:29

Dc1 intended name was decided within a few weeks of dh and I meeting (family name). By the time dc1 was born, 12 years later, we needed to choose a different first name, but since we also had another name we had both loved since childhood, it was easy. So I suppose, officially, dc1 was named the day I knew I was pregnant. Dc2 was decided when I was about 3 months pregnant. We wanted a name that went with dc1 and which dc1 could say.
We had a girls name ready for dc1 but didn't need it and would have used it for dc2.

Standrewsschool · 16/08/2020 09:43

Dc1 was chosen during the pregnancy. Can’t temper at what stage.

Dc2 - also chosen during pregnancy. When he was born, didn’t suit name si first and middle names got stopped. If we’d stuck with original name, he would have been the only one with that name (not rare, but not common) instead of Having to be identified by his sirname all the time. The original name would have given him a very 70s sounding nickname (which is often on the list of dying out names).

ILoveStickers · 16/08/2020 11:12

We had a shortlist of two, and a few possible middle names in the mix.

We chose her first name about 3 hours after she was born, and her middle names when she was about 2 weeks I think. (Too tired to make a final decision before then!)

PoodleMoth · 16/08/2020 15:39

For baby 1 we had a boys and girls name picked out around 6 weeks before, baby 2 we were still discussing final names in the delivery room for a boy or a girl. Finally decided a few hours before birth

user256162589 · 16/08/2020 16:04

Decided on the name not long after the 20 week scan when I found out I was expecting a boy. Both first and middle name settled on. Name stuck throughout the pregnancy and didn't change even when he was born.

BikeRunSki · 16/08/2020 16:12

DS’s first name - when I was about 14
DS’s middle names - about 3 months before he was born
DS’s surname - about a week after we was born.

DD - we stumbled into some kind of agreement a couple of months before she was born.

jennymac31 · 16/08/2020 16:37

DC1 - Decided on her full name 3 years before I fell pregnant.

DC2 - Decided on his first name during the 1st trimester of pregnancy and confirmed his middle names by the 3rd trimester.

1990shopefulftm · 16/08/2020 16:39

we decided before I was pregnant.

SpeedofaSloth · 16/08/2020 21:16

We had a shortlist each time, and named then from the list immediately after the were born.
I named DS, DH named DD.

BikeTyson · 16/08/2020 21:17

Didn’t find out the sex of the baby so had 1 girls name and one boys name. I wasn’t 100% on either until the baby was born but when she was it seemed to fit so we stuck with it.

Heyha · 16/08/2020 21:25

First name for either sex was sorted weeks and weeks before, as long as it suited them on arrival....middle name was picked after I'd had my tea and toast!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/08/2020 21:29

Both times before they were born. We didn't know the sex either time. For our second child we were convinced he was going to be a she and hadn't really considered any boy names. About a week before he was due we came to our senses and realised we didn't know for certain so spent an evening going through the baby names book until we agreed on something.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 16/08/2020 21:35

The day of my 20 week scan.

Scubalubs87 · 16/08/2020 21:41

When he was 2 days old. Middle name had been set for ages but I just felt weird about giving him a name before we met him. We had 3 names in contention but the one we chose in the end just felt right - it felt the most him.

Currently pregnant with a girl. Again, middle name has been set for ages but we won’t pin down the first name until she’s here.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 16/08/2020 21:44

Both DDs’ names decided after the scans to confirm girls. DD1 suited that name. DD2 due in a month so we’ll make sure she suits her name but I am fairly sure she will.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 16/08/2020 23:04

Middle names down before DD was born, first name we had a list and decided we would start at the top choice and if she didn't suit that go for next down etc until one did. Never got beond number 1! Although a couple of the top 10 names just didn't suit her at all once she was born which sounds weird; but then again my sister was fully decided on a name for her DC then once they were here said no, that's not them, and changed her mind!

HolyPillow · 16/08/2020 23:05

While en route to register DS at about eight weeks old.

Babyvibe · 16/08/2020 23:15

We decided on our name when we found out we was having a boy and was pretty set until we heard an unusual name we fell in love with about a month before he was born so the name we chose first became the middle name instead.
