What are people's thoughts on the name Sylvie?

I think “fairies with silvery wings” is precisely the reason why I don’t like it.

Really like it (really dislike Sylvia though!)

I'm going against the trend here, because to me it's more of a diminutive.

Sylvia or Silvia would be more to my taste & more grown up.

Or Silvana? Could be Silvie or Annie for short.

Silvana is quite nice. it's the 'ylv' bit I don't like.
Sylvia is horrible but Silvia is pretty.

I really like it but my French friend wrinkled her nose up at it which I'll admit did turn me off it. Silly really as I do not live in France and haven't been there in the entire time since my DD was born.

I think it's quite a middle aged or older woman's name in France.

I know a 12 year old Sylvia, whose name is generally shortened to Sylvie at home and was called Sylvie all through primary school. She decided to start calling herself Sylvia when starting secondary as she thought it sounded more grown up.

Maybe have Sylvia on the Birth Certificate, just to give her the option.
