Just looking for some opinions please....

I love the name Raven for a girl, but would you find this strange for a pale skinned girl with blonde hair?

Not guaranteed to be blonde but both DP and I had bright blonde hair when we were little, as do most of our family. I guess it could be mousey brown as well, but there’s no chance it’d be black so any opinions would be appreciated Grin

My best friend growing up is a Raven

TheOrigBrave · 06/08/2020 17:53

I'm afraid I just think the one on The Omen. I wouldn't name a child Raven

SoupDragon · 06/08/2020 17:58

Harbinger of doom.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/08/2020 18:00

If i have twin girls next I want Lillith and Raven

Giraffey1 · 06/08/2020 18:02

Personally, no, I find it bit pretentious.

cancelculturemeinyellow · 06/08/2020 18:07

That's so Raven

VenusClapTrap · 06/08/2020 18:17

It’s a very dramatic name, but I like it. I do think the child would need to be dark though. It would seem faintly ridiculous to me on a blonde person; although I’m clearly in the minority there.

VenusClapTrap · 06/08/2020 18:18

I believe Branwen means white raven, so you might like to consider that.

IsadoraQuagmire · 06/08/2020 18:38

I clicked on this thread thinking "not if she's blonde"

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2020 18:44

Branwen is white crow. Raven-wen would be Cigfranwen.
Call the girl Crow instread Smile

VenusClapTrap · 06/08/2020 18:52

Oh that’s interesting Mike. I was remembering a book I read donkeys’ years ago called ‘The White Raven’ by Diana Paxson, in which the narrator, Branwen, is called this because of this meaning.

Clearly the author was wrong! It wasn’t very highbrow, to be fair. I think I only remember it because it was a bit rude and I was a teenager Grin

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/08/2020 18:54

Gorgeous.

Theforest · 06/08/2020 18:55

Definitely from Teen Titans. She is very cool though. I like it.

BackforGood · 06/08/2020 19:00

Well, clearly I'm in the minority on this thread, but I think it is awful.

A raven is such a horrible, cruel looking bird. Awful connotations.

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2020 19:07

@VenusClapTrap, it probably sounded better!

It might be like the leek/daffodil debate. The national flower is daffodil, not leek, but we say we are wearing a leek (cennin/cenhinen) when it's a daffodil (cennin/cenhinen Pedr).

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/08/2020 19:08

Love it

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2020 19:11

Bird names are popular on here:
Robin
Jay
Wren
...

AdaColeman · 06/08/2020 19:16

It's a bit too GoT for my taste.

VenusClapTrap · 06/08/2020 19:16

I never knew that about leeks and daffodils! How interesting. Thank you.

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2020 19:37

@VenusClapTrap, that's what I was told.

Llinos, Gwennol, Gwylan and Eos are welsh birds' names. Llinos (Linnet) often comes up on here.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/08/2020 19:47

A agree that it feels like it needs to be dark but I know Rory's of every hair colour and Finn's too.

ZigZaggyZoo · 06/08/2020 20:14

It's a fabulous name

SparkleM · 06/08/2020 20:25

Love it!

DappledThings · 07/08/2020 07:25

I would find it strange for any child regardless of sex or hair colour.

daisypond · 07/08/2020 07:50

I’m not keen at all. It’s too associated with warnings of doom.
