Christina or Erika?

That's it really!

The 'k' in Erika is due to our partly continental European background. I'm not sure if we'd go with Kristina though. Something to think about still.

Thoughts?

I think both are fine with your background, you may have to spell them both out to avoid misspellings in UK but just C / K in both. Both sound a bit dated to me but nice enough names.

Hi KoalasandRabbit

Thank you for your reply and your honesty! It's appreciated. I understand what you mean about the datedness, I do. But we have a (distant) family member with one of those names and I find once it's attached to a real person (especially a younger one) it no longer seems dated, but fresh, if you see what I mean.

I like both a lot. Very fresh these days.

Nonestopcaberet · 05/08/2020 12:58

Erica is one of my favourite names even though it is dated. I prefer it with a C.
Funnily, I prefer Kristina with a K.

Neolara · 05/08/2020 12:59

I think Erika is really, really terrible. Sorry.n

MikeUniformMike · 05/08/2020 13:01

I like both.
Christina is nicer, but Cristina is used in southern europe, so it might have spelling issues.
I only know one Erika and no Ericas.

daisypond · 05/08/2020 13:01

Meant to say, I love Erica/ Erika. It’s a great name. I probably prefer it to Christina. It has a bit more edge and energy about it.

Orphlids · 05/08/2020 14:23

I love Erika. I prefer it with a K, it gives it a pleasantly sharp feeling. I don’t think it’s at all dated. It’s one of the strong Scandinavian names which I think are going to be gaining a bit in popularity. I’m not keen on Christina though.

ILoveStickers · 05/08/2020 14:24

Erika. I know a lovely Erica, and it's a great name.

AntiAuntieAnty · 05/08/2020 14:49

I like both, but prefer Erika.

I know a teen Christina. I always think it's very unusual and nice for her age group.

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2020 14:49

I really like Erika, it sounds quite strong and cool to me.

I also like Christina/Kristina very much.

Both are good choices.

AntiAuntieAnty · 05/08/2020 14:50

I don't like nn options for Christina; Chris or Chrissy or Tina? Which is why I prefer Erika.

LastTrainToShitsville · 05/08/2020 14:53

and what nn options does Erika have @AntiAuntieAnty.

AntiAuntieAnty · 05/08/2020 14:55

@LastTrainToShitsville

and what nn options does Erika have *@AntiAuntieAnty*.
None really! No obvious ones anyway. I would prefer that to shortenings I dislike, but that's obviously personal taste Smile.
missingmyholidays · 05/08/2020 16:35

I like both but would swap the c and k

Really like Kristina, and prefer Erica spelling

BadTigerKitty · 05/08/2020 16:37

I know a baby Erika - she's about 2 now. Fab name

elfran · 05/08/2020 17:12

I like Erika and prefer it with the k; Erica seems dated while Erika is still pleasantly Scandi/Germanic, to me.

Christina I can't abide, hopelessly 80s and I've never met one I liked (obviously this is just my experience and I'm sure there are many lovely Christinas out there).

florascotia2 · 05/08/2020 18:54

Admirable actress Kika Markham used 'Kika' as nickname for Erika. Rather nice.

Christina/Kristina also nice and due a revival, I think.

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 05/08/2020 18:58

I love both. As a pp has said, a refreshing change but also traditional and lovely.
Erica was on my list.
I don't think there is much point in planning nicknames as they tend to be self-germinating.
I know a Maria whose nickname is Chicca (pron like Kika in pp) and a Joseph whose nn is Chicco!

Didyousaynutella · 05/08/2020 19:03

I have an Erica. I had a wobble when she was born due to a few negative reactions but now I love it and it gets a lot of compliments. I haven’t come across another one but it isn’t an odd name.
I think it’s fresh and feisty and fits her personality. Not a silly girly wurly name. She is a blonde as well which I think works with the name.

Yellowmoonrising · 05/08/2020 22:35

Not keen on Erika/Erica but Christina is beautiful. I know a 13 year old Christina and it really suits her, makes her stand out from all the Evies, Olivias and Amelias in her year.

BeChuille · 05/08/2020 22:37

Christina.

Erika is so harsh.

123Dancewithme · 05/08/2020 23:06

Christina is lovely. Erica is ok but I don’t like the k spelling.

emptyplinth · 05/08/2020 23:10

I love Christina and I do like Chris, Chrissy, Christy as nns.
I don't honestly love the sound of Erica/Erika but I have a real soft spot for the name as every Erica/Erika I've known has been awesome.

babydisney · 06/08/2020 00:54

Erica is better
