We are having a baby boy, and while we both err towards traditional, my partner thinks a lot of my choices such as Nicholas, Edward, Frederick are too formal and prefers nick, Eddie, Freddie. I’ve no objections to nicknames at all but I’d personally like the full version on the birth certificate. He likes Archie, Charlie and Harry which I’m not really all that keen on.

Just so I don’t waste anybody’s time definite ‘nos’ are Daniel, William and Dylan as these are already in the family whether belonging to humans or pets! Grin

Thank you Whats!

I love Nathaniel ... he prefers Nathan. Thomas is out because of the tank engine apparently!?

Oliver is sweet but there are so many of them. I personally love Wilfred but I KNOW that will be out!

Is there any reason that he wouldn't be happy with one if your choices but known as nick, Eddie or Freddie?

Seems sorted to me

ahorsecalledseptember · 05/08/2020 12:31

That’s what I’m hoping for! But some other options are always good. The other one we both seem to like is Hugo.

Surely you just put full name on the birth certificate and do nickname now?

ahorsecalledseptember · 05/08/2020 12:50

This is it lazy I don’t think he likes the full version, and I do know what he means although I tend to be the other way around. For example, I love the name Katherine (if we were having a girl!) but I don’t like Kath so I’d never go for Katherine. I think he has the same in reverse!

I love Benjamin and benedict and lovely meanings.

Katherine nn Katie is lovely

Hugo is lovely!

I much prefer a long / formal name on the BC. I mean, your DH is entitled to his wrong opinion of course Wink.

Go with Hugo. You both like it. It's lovely. It isn't a nn. Done Smile.

Hugo is really lovely
