James. Without a doubt.

You could do a full Doc Martin and call him James Henry.

James Henry is nice. I didn't make the Doc Marten connection, but I did think of Henry James the author!

James Henry has a nice ring to it and I also thought of Doc Martin

James, it’s always been my absolute favourite. My James is 23 now and has never gone by a shortened version.

I love James and Henry's a classic too, so I'd pick the one that sounds best with the surname.

James. Would be my boy name if not DPs dads name!

Love both of them however since there is a few James in our circles we are swaying to Henry as don't know any. Is it still considered posh? As we are not posh.

I don't think Henry is especially posh... but actually, now you say it, I know three little boys called Henry and all three are middle class. One is from a quite wealthy family, the other two from less wealthy, but more intellectual, quite educated families. One of the mums I think is possibly the most academically gifted person I have ever met! And I went to good uni.

I don't think I would call her posh though. She is from a normal, suburban family and has a job which doesn't actually pay that well I don't think (she is a civil servant in another country. Quite high ranking). The other mums, one is a teacher and the other is a nursery teacher. The dads are civil service, facilities management (the v wealthy one) and don't know what the other one is.

Sorry, lengthy explanation, but actually, I think a question like "is it posh?" needs a lengthy explanation!

James all the way, but my DS is James (known as Jimmy) so I'm biased

Tbh I see Henry as a bit "wannabe posh" whereas James (to me) is a complete classic and totally classless. (I appreciate that I may just be showing my prejudices here, but you did ask )

I have a Henry James - we loved Henry as a first name and James is a family name on both sides so felt right to have it as the middle. Love the combination still. Never thought of Henry as being a posh name - just something fairly classic.

What do people think of when they hear the name James or Henry?

Both are smashing!! but Henry just pips it to the post.

I really like both. I have a Henry. The downside of James (for me) is that my real name starts with a J and I don't want to share an initial with someone in my immediate family (this is my own issue though). I also can't stand the nickname Jamie (this gets used a lot where I grew up).

Genuinely never known a James who goes by Jim or Jamie. They are all just James! Taught a fair few as well. The only Jamies were called Jamie officially, and I have yet to encounter a Jim in real life, which is disappointing as a Star Trek nerd!

James is my favourite of the two but only because my fil is called Henry and he is a racist/sexist bigot (oh and he definitely isn't posh 😂).

If I didn't have that connection then I'd love both names.

All the James’ I’ve known have been James, not Jim. I always think of James as intelligent, successful, thoughtful and caring because the ones I’ve known have been. 🤣
