Joshua or Joseph for other twin?

Tom1989 · 01/08/2020 09:09

Hello again, for people who don’t know - I made a thread about what people thought of me and DW naming our twins Joshua and Joseph (nn and Josh and Joe). However, it wasn’t very well received, and I understand the reasons why, it also goes a lot deeper than what we originally had doubts about (however I don’t know why people were saying Joe is a NN for Joshua Confused).

So me and DW have decided to go with Samuel for one of the twins and one of these two for the other. Which do people prefer, Joshua or Joseph? Thanks Smile

My two best mates are Sam and Joe and I can confirm that are bloody lovely!

showmethegin · 01/08/2020 11:24

*that they are

DavetheCat2001 · 01/08/2020 11:25

Joshua

Samuel and Joshua (or Josiah), lovely names

Scubalubs87 · 01/08/2020 11:29

I know brothers who are Sam and Joe (in their 30s) so to my ear they just sound right together.

Spidey66 · 01/08/2020 11:31

Both lovely names (and Samuel too) but Joseph has the edge for me.

BadEyeBri · 01/08/2020 11:35

Samuel and Joseph is much much nicer. Congratulations

ThunderR0ad78 · 01/08/2020 11:36

Much prefer Joseph to Joshua.

PotteringAlong · 01/08/2020 11:38

Joseph

Emelene · 01/08/2020 11:41

Both good, but I prefer the sounds of Samuel and Joseph / Sam and Joe. Smile

MsSquiz · 01/08/2020 11:44

I love Joseph, it was our boys name before we knew DD was a girl.

Joshua and Samuel go together well (my 2 nephews names) Joshua is rarely shortened in our family, but Samuel is almost always Sam

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/08/2020 11:57

Joseph. Sam and Joe are in the same name pond. Although it’s an old biblical name Joshua sounds too modern and do I dare say a tad chavvy to my ears.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 01/08/2020 13:09

Joshua and Samuel were our choices for DS. We went with Josh in the end but it was very close - DD got the deciding vote. So I vote Joshua.

grissomsbugs · 01/08/2020 13:10

Definitely Joshua.

MikeUniformMike · 01/08/2020 13:15

Much prefer Joseph to Joe.

OP, If you like both Joshua and Joseph, then don't take too much attention of what people say on here.

I'd go for Sam and Dan or Sam and Ben.

whichteaareyou · 01/08/2020 13:21

Really really dislike josh! Sam and Joe all the way!

shinynewapple2020 · 01/08/2020 13:24

I think they are all nice names and any two would go well together.

Certainly agree that Joshua was a very popular name a few years back, perhaps too popular (but not chavvy!!) but I don't think it is so much now.

MikeUniformMike · 01/08/2020 13:28

Joshua was popular around the same time as Liam, Conor and Ryan, so it tends to fall in that bracket. I find the J and SH sounds too close, but other than that it is ok.

BeMorePacific · 01/08/2020 13:28

I really like both! But I’d go for Jospeh, as I love Joe/Joey.

FeedMeSantiago · 01/08/2020 16:30

Joseph and Samuel.

DoTheRunningMan · 01/08/2020 16:31

They’re all lovely names in any combination.

WinnieLo · 01/08/2020 16:34

Sam and Josh go better imo

I think you're doing the right thing giving them both their own initial.

octoberfarm · 01/08/2020 16:41

Adore Samuel! I think I prefer the name Joseph to Joshua, but Samuel and Joshua go really well together. Not helpful at all, sorry Blush

Flymetothestars · 01/08/2020 16:41

Sam and Joe or Josh all sound great!

Joshua is much rarer these days - I don't know any. Looking at the statistics it's numbers are in decline.

All really great names that I don't think you'll regret

steppemum · 01/08/2020 16:44

Maybe not likely though as Sepp not used in U.K. (assuming that’s where you are).

that is really interestign, I have a (dutch) nephew called Sepp, and it was a new name to me, I have never met another one either. I assumed they had made it up, (as did my Dutch dh) i didn't realised it was an abbreviation of Joseph in some places.

I don't think it is a shortenng of Joseph in the UK at all.
