Penny/Daisy

I am obsessing over what kind of people have what type of names atm. Completely stupid.
Last Night I had this idea that names could carry some kind of negative or positive energy. I know it's the hormones kicking in but I still want to ask:

  • What kind of people do you know with the name Penny (age, personality etc)?
  • the same for Daisy!

Thanks! Daffodil

My friend recently had a beautiful little girl called Penny, sweet, serious and inquisitive with gorgeous dark hair. Can't help with Daisy.

Cheesecakejar · 25/07/2020 22:03

Penny, only a dog, sweet thing but can be a bit tetchy.

Daisy, little girl who was like the devil while she was a toddler, bit cocky now but has a heart of gold.

Just being honest 🤷‍♀️

sibbys · 25/07/2020 22:05

That's great! Exactly what I want to hear! Thanks for sharing!

I know 2 Penny's - both middle aged and absolutely awful people. It's a nice name though.
Can't help with Daisy (I did have a hamster named Daisy and she was lovely Grin).

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 25/07/2020 22:09

I know a Penny in her 80's - incredibly stylish, very lively and great company.

sibbys · 25/07/2020 22:10

@catfeets awful in what way?

OP posts:
HeronLanyon · 25/07/2020 22:12

Penny - lots of differing ages. Neutral as to age/type/class etc.
Daisy - could be difficult. As gets older name suits less and this is connected. Scatty
Those are my wholly irrational first immediate thoughts.
Love Penny fat more than daisy. If it were the other way around so too would my irrational thoughts be possibly.

User2398 · 25/07/2020 22:12

I'm a nickname 'Daisy' but that's not my full name. I'm late twenties but can't comment on personality - my friends think I'm okay haha!

Penny - I associate grumpy older ladies with the name unfortunately.

I know A LOT of women called Daisy my age.

HeronLanyon · 25/07/2020 22:13

Hi daisy ! BlushGrin

catfeets · 25/07/2020 22:28

@sibbys awful as in just generally rude to others. They also both look down on others who haven't achieved the same as they have.

Whatsyourflava · 25/07/2020 23:10

Just wanted to say both lovely names

Whatsyourflava · 25/07/2020 23:11

I have no preconceived ideas so can't help there.

RedRumTheHorse · 26/07/2020 00:45

I have a 10 year old niece called Daisy and a friend's 20-something step-daughter is called Daisy. I live next to a nursery, 2 state primaries and an independent prep school and over the last decade or so I have heard random parents call out for their "Daisy". So the name is common though I've not heard it this year. (Flower names are very common. Poppy is the most common one.)

My LO, who is 22 months, has a friend called Penny whose full name is Penelope. All the Penny's I know or have known full names are "Penelope". They are aged 40+. There are quite a few actors called "Penelope". So don't call her Penny but Penelope on her birth certificate. That way when she is older and ruler of the world she can use either version.

Onestepup · 26/07/2020 01:35

Penny

  1. Calm, kind and generally nice
  2. Sociable and lively
  3. A bit of a diva

Daisy
No people but 2 pets!

However I prefer Daisy.

sibbys · 26/07/2020 06:35

@RedRumTheHorse We're not keen on Penelope. Thanks though.

What personality do the Daisy's you know have?

MrsGilly1 · 26/07/2020 06:36

Hi
Penny I see as shy, kind and nice.

Daisy I see as independent, very kind and caring and popular.

I like both names X

Peachbubble · 26/07/2020 07:02

Penny - I know two (one 30s, one 50s), both bossy and opinionated!
Daisy - one toddler, very sweet and kind, one teenager, studious and quiet, and one octogenarian, kind and generous.

Bubbletrouble43 · 26/07/2020 07:07

My mum is a Penny, in her 70s, wonderful kind person who HATES her name. She finds it hilarious it's fashionable again. Daisy : I know 2, a very sweet soft teenager and a 4yo at dc nursery who is a lovely little girl.

zincchannel · 26/07/2020 07:36

Changing your opinion on or indeed ruling out a name based on someone's experience with maybe 1 or 2 people who bear the name, is not a good approach. Not all Pennys and Daisys are the same - a stranger on the internet having a negative impression of a name because of who they associate it with, shouldn't affect your decision in any way. For every 1 awful Penny in this world, there are 10 wonderful Pennys, same for Daisy. Your name says literally nothing about your personality.

^This.

One of the Daisy's I know has an eating disorder.

The young girl nicknamed Penny is patient and kind.

sibbys · 26/07/2020 10:11

@zincchannel

I know. It wont make me rule out either name. I did write I know it's stupid and I know the hormones are making me think irationally. I still think it's interesting to read everyones experiences with the names.

Lovely names. If i had 3 girls now I'd consider Penny, Daisy and Ida. (I actually have 2 teenage girls with traditional/saint type names)

GoshHashana · 26/07/2020 10:28

The Pennies I know are Chinese or Singaporean middle-aged women who choose it as their "English name".

The Daisies I know are either posh teens or toddlers.

RedRumTheHorse · 26/07/2020 11:37

This is a Daisy -
