Keep it for a middle name.

Sunbird24 · 21/07/2020 21:46

I know one in his 20s, if you love it then go for it. People get used to it pretty quickly and it’s never held the one I know back

Lochroy · 21/07/2020 22:06

Wasn't there one in a Jilly Cooper?

Ostagazuzulum · 21/07/2020 22:16

I actually Know of an adult male called blue, in-law relative of my cousin. It's his real name given at birth. Utter down and out. Lots of Domestic violence and sleeps in car. Generally very angry. At no point do I ever think this is because of his name but the name would make me think of him (*shudders at thought)

What I would say about the name though, is that we discussed the name with my cousin a while back as it's quite unusual and a bit of a talking point. She says people
Often presume from His name he's very Chavvy (he's actually
From very well off family just he has a crappy
Attitude) Or a traveller (not that I have anything against travellers). That might be a generational thing though because name is very unusual for someone of his age (I think he's early
40's?) .

Long and short of it is, I personally wouldn't use that name.

My neighbours have a dog called Blue..

SleepingStandingUp · 22/07/2020 00:35

It's not a cherry colour.

Feeling blue.
Baby blues.
It's a child colour tooa

Wheresthebiffer2 · 22/07/2020 00:43

It is not a boy's name. It's a colour. In my school they taught us this.

worstwitch18 · 22/07/2020 05:29

Blue is obviously a girls' name. Source: Blue's Clues.

RaraRachael · 22/07/2020 12:29

I'd pronounce blue and blew the same. How are they different? Confused

M0mmyneedswine · 22/07/2020 12:35

I know 1 who is a girl aged about 12, it suits her but not a name id use

Fairenuff · 22/07/2020 18:45

I guess OP isn't coming back.

PocketBears · 22/07/2020 19:04

OMG, I love it. But I think it's better as Bloo. You know, as in that really deep royal blue like those bog cleaning blocks.

cliffdiver · 23/07/2020 12:04

@PocketBears I thought you were being serious until the last 3 words Grin

Whatsyourflava · 23/07/2020 12:39

@RedRumTheHorse most of the big firms anonymise CVs these days. All references to name, sex, school etc have to be removed before they select who to interview so that they are not swayed by these things. Studies have found that firms interview and employ more women and more ethnic minorities this way.
Currently searching for work and 3 out of 4 of my applications were anonymised last week. In 20 years time I imagine it'll be standard practise across the board

Blue isn't my favourite name but it won't affect job prospects in my opinion

Twenty99x · 23/07/2020 16:46

No, it sounds like you are naming a pet.

DappledThings · 24/07/2020 10:36

Just no.

bluemoon2468 · 24/07/2020 15:32

If you MUST then at least have the decency to use it as a middle name. Then they can pretend they don't have one if it all gets too embarrassing. Imagine applying for university or a professional job with the name Blue 🙈
