Would you be upset if your sibling, mum and dads name all began with the same letter but yours didn't?

Ha ha, no!?

I might think it a bit odd if it seemed very obvious with the matching. A family of parents Edward and Edwina and children Edwin and Susan might come across as strange.
However, if I think of some of the smaller families that I grew up near, it's not too unusual, especially if names are passed on.
We had a:
John, Jean, Joseph, Catherine
Mary, Martin, Michael, Dan
Louise, Lee, Lisa, Joanne

Had never really noticed until I thought about it now.

Not at all. It might be a bit weird if you had a large sibling set and one odd one out (e.g. John, Jane, James, Joseph, Julia and Penelope). But just from parents and one sibling, no.

emilybrontescorsett · 20/07/2020 12:54

Yes I agree fine if just one sibling has the same initial as mum and dad, a bit odd if 4 out of 5 siblings do.

MamaDane · 20/07/2020 12:58

Nah. I mean look at the Duggers family naming all their 500 kids, (or however many they are) with the letter J, ending up with several ridiculous names just for the sake of it. I'd rather be called Elisabeth than "Jinger" Grin

Jay53 · 20/07/2020 13:12

So the reason I ask is. We have baby no 2 on the way. We both have a name that we really like that starts with a J. Me and my husband are also J. Hubby thinks it would be extremely unfair on my little boy as he begins with a B. I really don't see the issue but just wanted to see what other people thought.

I have the exact same combination as you. Husband same initial, first child different, and we called second child same initial as us. It's been no worries at all. Noone has ever ever really noticed or stated anout the three 'matching' initials, and doesn't cause any issues for us. Although they start with the same letter they're different names being worn by different people so I think it's fine. I don't feel your first child will feel that missed out, they may be relieved to have a different initial than their sibling. To your children you're Mum and Dad too, so your names may not be said that much at home day to day. If you love the name go for it!

Whatsyourflava · 20/07/2020 13:30

Haha no I would be really looking for a fight if I were to start getting upset about something like that!!

I know a family where the names are something like Michael (Mick) and Margaret, and the children are Michael, Marie, Mark and Stephen. It looked like they had run out of M names, but they had planned to call him Martin.

(Changed all the names in case I out anyone)

I’ve just realised that both my parents names begin with C and so does the name of one brother. It wouldn’t occur to me be remotely jealous about it.
