Harriet or not?

Due in less than two weeks and now doubting the name we had chosen for a girl!
We had picked Harriet Eliza.

She would have the nn Hattie (which I still love).
Sibling is Evelyn Grace.

After my hearing husband say Harriet out loud, I notice the 't' at the end is often missed/ not really pronounced properly and it irritates me! Does that make sense? Say it out loud - how do you say it?
I'm also not sure i can picture/hear myself using the full name day to day.

On paper we prefer Harriet, but other names we like are...

Rosa (but I worry this is too Latin/ Spanish/ Italian as we are both white British and have no connection to those cultures, although I do love the name!)

I love Lola - husband doesn't.

Other names we liked but have decided were not right for us are
Florence
Ada
Charlotte (Lottie)
Isobel

What do you think? Stick to Harriet? Rosa? Lola? Or something else entirely?
We want something classic really, but not overly popular, not something which is nice now, but is likely a trend that will pass.

I have a Harriet Elizabeth! She's almost 17 and we call her Hattie. I've never regretted my name choice.

Onestepup · 17/07/2020 20:42

If the missing 't' annoys you now, it may be a permanent annoyance.

Rosa is very nice. I know two Rosas, both white British, and it suits them.

Pleasegotosleep01 · 17/07/2020 20:42

I'm very biased as I have a Harriet Grace (we clearly have similar taste!) but we very rarely call her Harriet. She is always Hattie or Hats. Not too popular only 2 others we've met in our area in the last 4 years.

I know quite a few Rosa's. Not Spanish. Political parents naming after Rosa Luxembourg.

StillThatBitch · 17/07/2020 20:43

Haha that's exactly why I changed my mind from Harriet! My H could not pronounce the t and it drove me insane. He does it with 'water' as well, so it's more like 'war-uh'. I've never regretted changing!

Overcautiouscorona · 17/07/2020 20:45

Don't like not Wink

Agree Harriet gets the t left out, honestly don't do it, my DD has a t left out of her name and it drives me insane. Like Charlotte also Elizabeth (Lizzy, Libbey, Beth, Eliza)

KaptainKaveman · 17/07/2020 20:46

Don't change it! Harriet Eliza is really nice Smile

GAW19 · 17/07/2020 20:49

I LOVE Harriet but I prefer Harri as a nn, not a big fan of Hattie 😊

CountFosco · 17/07/2020 20:50

Harriet is lovely. Would you pronounce Rosa Rose-a or Ross-a?

sweetnosugar · 17/07/2020 20:59

Love Hattie as a stand alone name, I know a lot of people on here don’t like diminutives though.

Aber9 · 17/07/2020 21:16

Really lovely name, but I know what you mean as to whether “Harri-uh” would annoy me. The only one I know tends to get pronounced correctly from what I’ve heard, though.

Happenchance · 17/07/2020 22:04

I love Hattie and would use it instead of Harriet if you are concerned about the dropped t.

123Dancewithme · 17/07/2020 22:08

Harriet is lovely, don’t change it!

SquigglePigs · 17/07/2020 22:10

Harriet is lovely. It was on our short list. So was Evelyn!

Enderline · 17/07/2020 22:13

Love love love Harriet and think it goes beautifully with Evelyn Smile

LarkDescending · 17/07/2020 22:25

Rosa Harriet would be lovely.

PlantPotting · 17/07/2020 22:34

Love Harriet Rosa and Lola!!

thirstyformore · 17/07/2020 22:37

Another biased one here with a Harriet, always called Hatty (or like a previous poster Hats).

She very rarely gets called Harriet, so I wouldn't worry about the drooped t.

DramaAlpaca · 17/07/2020 22:40

Stick with Harriet Eliza, it's lovely as is Hattie. I do pronounce the 't' on the end though. It's lazy not to, really and I don't care if anyone says it's dialect

If she goes by Hattie it won't matter too much.

Cindie943811A · 17/07/2020 22:58

OP does your DH use the glottal stop? Does he pronounce the ts in the middle of bottle, for instance, or is it more like bo- all (the o as in off).
If so, he won’t say Hattie to your liking.

Jocundest · 17/07/2020 23:04

Harriet is nice, but if your husband really can’t/won’t pronounce it properly, I might rethink. Ada, of your other choices.

PixieDust1986 · 17/07/2020 23:10

I'm going to get him to say the name each time he refers to the baby (we actually don't know the gender) over the next couple of days and see how he pronounces it. As i've drawn his attention to it, the couple of times he's said it he's over compensated and makes a point of saying the 't' !
He really likes the name though

Harriet is lovely but the dropped 'T' would drive me mental.

Todaywewilldobetter · 18/07/2020 13:21

Interesting! Just watching James Martin and he's just said Violet twice and he doesn't pronounce the T.
I've just said Charlotte ouloud twice and am not sure if I always pronounce the T.

Hmm... !

Todaywewilldobetter · 18/07/2020 13:23

Just done my best Danny Dyer and he won't pronounce the T in Hattie either!

PixieDust1986 · 18/07/2020 14:24

It's definitely very common! It's one of the reasons that actually put me off the name Charlotte too.
The chances are we'd be calling her Hattie day to day, which he does say properly though
