Usain Bolt reveals he and his girlfriend have called their baby daughter Olympia Lightning Bolt. She's a very beautiful baby. I wonder what she'll make of her name when she's older.

If Lightning is a middle name I think it's fine. Middle names are pretty much ignored after the baby introductions stage.

Olympia isn't really unusual at all. Beautiful name.

This is the double standards on Mumsnet because someone well liked has given their baby an out there name. It's all Oh what a beautiful name. However if some one comes on here asking for opinions on an unusual name it's all "Is,this a joke. Poor child . Please don't. . Are you on glue.

You don't get much further Out There than being the fastest man in the world.

It's not the same as Amy and Liam Bloggs, an accounts assistant and careworker from Little Noggin on the Furze naming their kid Frangipane Arcadia Stromboli Poptart.

I think Olympia is pretty, and a fitting tribute to her father's legacy.

Lighting is too far for me - it did make me think of North West, and how it's a none-too-subtle joke, "pointing" at the surname.

Looked at in that way, all three of this girl's names are referencing her father. Makes me wonder where her mum's taste/opinion is in all this

Hmmm, seems a bit unfair to saddle the child with the legacy of Bolt's past. What if she turns out to hate athletics and is bookish and just wants to sit in the corner with Harry Potter or something?

Well you can see how they thought of it, I think in the context of Usain Bolt it works!

Usain Bolt has a larger than life personality (to put it mildly). If this little one takes after him, she'll live up to her name. If she doesn't, well, there's always deed poll. As she'll always be known as his child, she'll have a fair amount to contend with even if she'd been called something far more mainstream. I saw in passing that her birth was announced by the Jamaican Prime Minister.

Everyone in Jamaica will know who her dad is, regardless of the name.

Having bizarre middle name/s isn't that unusual, and putting strange (maybe family traditional) ones in the middle is the right place fornthem.

Olympia is an OK name (my first thought would be horse show, rather than Games, though!)

Love the name Olympia. My DD has it as her middle name after her great grandmother and also she was conceived during London 2012. We don't tell her the last bit!!

I think it's pretty bad, though admittedly not as terrible as some other celebrity names.

Olympia is a fine name. Assuming Lightning is a middle name that’s fine too. A relative of mine has the middle name Freedom.

I think it absolutely suits Usain Bolt’s child.

(And for reference my children’s names are boring traditional)
