Thanks.

They're both lovely. Melissa has the edge for me I think.

Grufallosfriends · 08/07/2020 11:36

Melissa sounds much prettier.

CremeEggThief · 08/07/2020 11:38

Melissa sounds so beautiful.

MikeUniformMike · 08/07/2020 11:40

I like both, but do you like Maddie/Mads and Mel?
I dislike Meredith.

midnightstar66 · 08/07/2020 11:42

I like Madeline but obviously has such a strong association with McCann. Melissa is rather dated but not dated enough to be making a second appearance imo

sneezetwice · 08/07/2020 11:43

I know a Melissa who gets called Missy

RoseMartha · 08/07/2020 11:50

I prefer Madeline
Instead of Melissa you could opt for Marissa

difficulttod · 08/07/2020 11:51

Melissa

It’s a beautiful name. Madeleine and it’s seemingly infinite variations are so boring and lacking in personality.

TwoLittleTwins · 08/07/2020 12:16

Both are lovely but Melissa is my favourite. Nearly used it for one of my little girls.

Grufallosfriends · 08/07/2020 12:32

In French Madeleine sounds nice. The emphasis being on the Leine.

But in English the Mad emphasis is awful.

123Dancewithme · 08/07/2020 21:11

Melissa is so pretty. I don’t like Maddie so not overly keen on Madeleine.

resm · 08/07/2020 21:17

Madeleine and love nickname Maddie also!

Melissa due a revival. Beautiful written down and lovely meaning.

Nomorewineever · 08/07/2020 23:26

I have a Melissa.

She’s never a Mel. She’s always Melissa or Miss. my father is American and the common shortening there is Missy.

In greek it means honey bee.

It suits her, it’s unusual and we get a lot of compliments on it. No issues with spelling but not another one in school either so a good balance.

Marcipex · 08/07/2020 23:33

Madeleine

Kokeshi123 · 09/07/2020 01:29

I like both but would go with Melissa as it avoids any risk of "Maddie" etc. Melissa is a pretty name; it's true that it was more often given in the 70s and 80s, but it was never hugely overused and I don't think it sounds dated at all.

Poppydaisie · 09/07/2020 07:44

Melissa

Madeleine is ok but Mad, Mads or Maddie are awful imo. Sounds like someone 😡 very mad.

bridgetreilly · 09/07/2020 10:34

Madeleine by a mile.

BabloHoney · 09/07/2020 12:37

Love Melissa. Lissa or Lissy are nice nicknames too.

Enterthedragons · 09/07/2020 14:38

Melissa

TimeWastingButFun · 09/07/2020 14:42

Melissa. Not sure about any name that starts with Mad. And kids can be cruel!

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 09/07/2020 15:05

I like Melissa but dislike Mel

I like Madeleine but dislike Maddy, though Leiney/Lainey is quite sweet.

You could also use Lissy for a NN for Melissa.

So both lovely but think through the potential NNs
