Ellie and Ollie?

DD is an Elizabeth but everyone calls her Ellie. Currently expecting a boy and the only name we agree on is Oliver. But we can't decide if it sounds silly?
Even if we didn't shorten his name to Ollie like we did DD from the beginning it will get shortened eventually to Ollie won't it?

I really like it, I have an Oliver (Ollie) and he would have been called Ellie if he was a girl but I do think the two names sound really nice together, it's up to you at the end of the day if you like it then go for it

It's absolutely fine as they are only nick names.

@ShyOwl i would assume it will definitely be shortened to Ollie and therefore too similar. Nathaniel is nice, as is Nate.

If you like the name then go for it!

My Oliver is 17. He has been Ollie for as long as I can remember. Only grandparents tend to use his full name and he does use it now and again. We also have a Lucy.

I know a family with a Ollie and Molly is which sound a bit odd but they like it and that’s all that matters.

Is it Oliver or Ollie that you love? If it's Ollie then I wouldn't do it. You will end up calling them the wrong name - I have three with very different sounding names and still confuse them. If you like the 'ee' sound what about something with a consonant at the start such as Toby, Jonny, frankie etc. If you like Oliver than I know many older who are not known as Ollie and by which point you will rarely refer to your children and their names in the same sentence anyway! Once they're older it will become less of an issue x

I think having two or more children with names ending with ee sounds a bit naff.

My Oliver is 18 and has never been called Ollie... I don’t have an Ellie though. (Although if I had an Elizabeth I wouldn’t see an issue with having an Oliver...)
I did at one point provide residential care for an Olivia. We had a few moments where I called and both turned up (Oliver and Olivia, obv) but it was honestly less weird or problematic than I had envisioned.

Perhaps spelling it Olly would help a bit? That's how my Oliver spells his shortening Ellie and Olly doesn't seem as samey

@Nocturnalpearl it's Oliver we love, so I'm tempted because DD might choose to go by one of the other Elizabeth nn by the time she goes to school, or even her middle name!

Maybe we just firmly stick with Oliver, both DB and I are called by our full names by family and nn by friends etc, so Ellie & Ollie wouldn't be used together

I agree that Ellie and Ollie sound like cartoon characters. It's a shame Elizabeth isn't Beth or Lizzie (or something similar) as then it wouldn't be a problem. Sticking by Oliver is probably the best plan.
