Names which work in French and English

We have a list of names which might work in French and English (oh Is French), albeit not many boys names. Which do you like, or have you any to add?

I stand corrected, Maeva does indeed exist in France, my French baby names book says it's in the top 200. No umlaut though (not in my book) and I think it would be pronounced May-va.

I don't think it's particularly odd. Anglophone/international names have been very popular in France for several years now.
Most of the names that English speakers think of as French names are not cool there at all, they're names of the older generations.

Lots of French names are identical in English (only difference is where the syllables are emphasised usual) both dd and I have French origin names that are mainstream names in the U.K. just think of names you like, with your surname I would avoid ending in a vowel as that would sound more Italian (unless you want that)

Emma isn’t an Anglophone name, there are lots of historical French figures called Emma (and Emma Bovary, one of the most famous French fictional characters). Personally I would jump at the chance to use something more obviously French, especially for a girl as I think French girls’ names are gorgeous. Maeva is very pretty, though it risks sounding like a hyphenated name in a British accent. But it’s understandable that you might want something more British-sounding to reflect your heritage. Or a French name but a more English nickname - though you can’t guarantee it will be used by anyone other than yourselves, nicknames tend to evolve organically.

Sebastian isn't french. It's Sébastien.

I'm surprised more than one person has suggested Daniel, you do realise it's pronounced "Danielle" in French?!

Also. I've never met a French person who would seriously consider calling their daughter Fleur. I mean, there must be a few, but not many. Just because it's a French word doesn't make it a good French name! (And don't get me started on "Beau" )

Ellise / Ellise / Elyse can be spelt however you want it - there is no law you know? Our daughters name is spelt with 2 l’s. You sound like a rude person.

Got a friend with a Jacques which works well here in England and ofc France. When they speak French to him it's the French pronunciation, and the rest of us call him Jack!

All 3 of those spellings are standard spellings for that name. Perhaps one or the other is more common but they are all standard.

And how on earth would “yoonique” spelling go against you? 🤣. The only issue we’ve suffered is her name being misspelt in a birthday card from 1 person.
