What do you think of the name Juna?

Both me and my husband love the name Juno but our surname is short and rhymes with it (Lowe) which I think makes it sound a bit of a mouthful. We’re also not overly keen on the association with the film character.

I came across the name Juna which we both love but I’m starting to second guess whether it sounds like we’re trying too hard to be different by switching the ‘o’ for an ‘a’. Especially since I found an article online which said Juna was one of the most unpopular given names in the UK in 2018. Basically any name with June in it seems to be a winner with us. We would just use June but feel it’s a bit short with our short surname. Also considering Juniper but I’m wondering the same as Juna.

I’m due today so probably overthinking this while waiting for baby but any thoughts welcome. Thanks In advance Smile

Stunning name! A mix of Juno and Luna which are both rising in popularity so keeps it unique without being too out there😊

fantasmasgoria1 · 30/06/2020 15:08

Juna is nice. June is really old fashioned (only my opinion). I think juno with Lowe is fine, i don't see an issue. Juniper is nice too

CatRamsey · 30/06/2020 15:10

Juna and Juniper are lovely - if you use Juniper you've got the option to shorten it to Juna/Juno. Fwiw, I think Juno Lowe sounds fine!

isitmethough · 30/06/2020 18:47

Juniper is great with your surname!

Sheenais · 30/06/2020 18:49

June or Junie is nicer than Juna. I see it as Juana which I like but only with the correct pronunciation

Peanut07 · 30/06/2020 18:50

Thanks everyone, this has been really useful as there are some things I’d never considered. It’s so tricky choosing a name! No sign yet and baby seems pretty cosy so might have a few more days to decide yet Smile

Not good. Sounds like tuna. Juniper is much better.

daisypond · 30/06/2020 19:00

I would never associate the name Juno with a film character. It’s just a name from the myths. Juna sounds a bit odd to me. Maybe it’s OK. I do think something a bit longer might work better.

peachgreen · 30/06/2020 19:04

I really like it. Like Junie too as suggested by a PP. Or Joanie?

Eaumyword · 30/06/2020 19:08

Not sure about Juna, adore Juno. Like Joni or Joanie. Juno Lowe sounds quite cool!

Aria20 · 30/06/2020 20:19

Agree with those who said reminds them of Tuna! Also don't like Juno or Junia. Juniper is ok.

user1493494961 · 30/06/2020 20:43

Juniper is better, Juna sounds made up.

wishing3 · 30/06/2020 23:17

How about Jana?

daisypond · 30/06/2020 23:25

Or even Joanne or Joanna?

crazyquadmum · 30/06/2020 23:27

Juniper!

Wheresthebiffer2 · 30/06/2020 23:30

Juniper is pretty.

motherofawhirlwind · 30/06/2020 23:36

Juniper Lowe sounds epic to me!

babynamelover · 01/07/2020 12:02

My eldest has a June name. I never saw Juna before! I also saw Junina today intriguing...

octoberfarm · 01/07/2020 15:48

Adore Juniper and would probably choose that out of all your options, nn Juno or Junie. Also think Juno Lowe sounds lovely though!

oceanbreezy · 01/07/2020 15:54

Juni

frustrationcentral · 01/07/2020 15:58

Ah I like Juniper!

Good luck OP!!

HeeeeyDuggee · 01/07/2020 16:01

I’d pick Juniper or stick with Juno. I think Juno Lowe sounds fine

fabulous40s · 01/07/2020 16:15

Juniper sounds great - Juna sounds like Tuna

Maduixa · 01/07/2020 16:23

Love June, and Junie. Juni is a legitimate (stand alone) name in Swedish but pronounced with an initial sound like the English y. (Of course, you could pronounce it otherwise in English).

Love the idea of Juniper, but not sure I love the sound.

Prefer Junia to Juna but wonder if people would hear that as Julia?

Juno - it may be my accent, but to me it sounds indistinguishable from the capital city of Alaska.
