Hi all,

So me and my partner have really struggled to decide on a girls name that we both really like. He has vetoed most of the ones I liked (Sienna, Maya, Lily, Esme) and I'm not majorly keen on the couple he's suggested (Aria, Ruby).

The name we both really like (and he seems very set on) is Mila - pronounced ME-LAH.

Opinions? Please be honest but kind!

Also, suggestions for middle names? Surname is two syllables if that helps. I was thinking -
Mila Grace
Mila Belle

We are in the UK for reference.

I’m not keen. It only really became trendy in the UK because of Mila Kunis. I think it will date badly.

Seainasive · 28/06/2020 12:24

Lovely name, very common in Central Europe.

june2007 · 28/06/2020 12:31

How do you penounce it? (Miller, Meala, or Myla.)

Alwaysundecided · 28/06/2020 12:33

Love the name Mila, it has a lovely elegant sound to it. I actually prefer it to all your other options, I also love Esme but is comes with pronunciation problems.
I do think Mila is going to be quite popular, not sure if that bothers you or not, it's currently 49 in the charts and rising fast. It wouldn't put me off personally.

Mila Grace is fine but I don't personally like the name Grace as it's so overused as a middle name.
I love Mila Bella personally. I like the double A sound as it sounds lyrical but that's personal opinion. I love the name Rosa Bella for example.
Mila Primrose
Mila Jasmine
Mila Esme
Mila Alexandra

To be honest loads of middle name sound lovely with it so just choose one you love.

Chewbecca · 28/06/2020 12:38

It makes me think of Milia I’m afraid.

I think you will spend a lot of time correcting people who say my-la v your preferred pronunciation.

4amWitchingHour · 28/06/2020 12:44

I think it's lovely. I don't think there would be that many mispronunciations due to Mila Kunis, Mila Jovovich etc

Middle name - so many that go! Grace flows really nicely, although I think most single syllable names would

LotusClover · 28/06/2020 13:20

Agree that it's likely to date, and most people will say "my-la" - I assumed it was pronounced like this when I read the title.

daisypond · 28/06/2020 13:25

It’s fine. I know a late-teens Mila, who is Spanish. I don’t know if it’s a well known Spanish name. I find it a bit bland, though.

daisypond · 28/06/2020 13:26

Definitely pronounced Mee-la.

Whatsyourflava · 28/06/2020 13:48

Absolutely love this name. Haven't met one yet but it's on my list. So elegant

Your middle name options are nice

Other ideas

Mila Edith
Mila Elizabeth
Mila Clementine
Mila Cleo
Mila Pearl
Mila Roxanne or Roseanne ❤️

ShadowMane · 28/06/2020 13:50

Mila Pearl - sounds like a contraceptive

theres a Mila in Once Upon a Time

butterry · 28/06/2020 13:53

Mila sounds more like a nickname to me as I have a few friends that use it, Camila, Emily, Amelia. They have European family so I think that’s where the shortening comes from

MrsSnitchnose · 28/06/2020 13:56

I would use it if I had a girl. It's Russian and I love all things Russian

Bubbletrouble43 · 28/06/2020 13:59

Like it. It goes better with Grace. I only know one who is about 90 years old!

Apolloanddaphne · 28/06/2020 14:01

I really like it. I instinctively went with the Mee-la pronunciation. If people pronounce it wrongly it is easily corrected and once people know how to say it all will be fine.

Frazzled2207 · 28/06/2020 14:01

I know a few small Milas and I like it but always get confused as to whether they are Mee-La or My-la. They are a mix. Meanwhile I know a few Lilas too and they are always Lye-la not Leela. So personally I would avoid for that reason. Some people might also say Miller which is obviously wrong but will happen and isn’t particularly pretty.

Lumie123 · 28/06/2020 14:07

Lovely name.
From my experience most people on here arnt keen on popular or becoming popular names but I wouldn't let that put you off.

daisypond · 28/06/2020 14:20

It’s a Spanish diminutive from the name Milagros as well as being a Slavic name.

IsMiseMorag · 28/06/2020 14:25

yes, the only Mila I know is a Milagros.

RuthW · 28/06/2020 14:56

I always forget how to pronounce it and always get it wrong.

june2007 · 28/06/2020 15:47

So child will always be telling people how to pronounce it, that's enough to put me off.

AntiHop · 28/06/2020 15:49

Love it! I agree that grace is over used as a middle name, and belle doesn't go with mila.

20viona · 28/06/2020 15:57

Lovely. Mila Violet I like.

Soubriquet · 28/06/2020 16:01

I like it

It’s one I’m considering in the future

RoundTheTwister · 28/06/2020 17:02

I love it and wanted to use it for my daughter but my husband wasn't keen. Wish I'd used it because I still don't like the name we ended up using!
