Baby surnames?

For those of you not married, or who haven't changed their surname to DH's... is baby taking their daddy's surname? Are you double-barrelling?

I'd like to double barrel, but not sure we can as we're in Scotland and our surnames both start "Mc"..... and I'm worried this will be a burden for DC!

So I think DC will have DH's surname, and I'll likely change mine to be the same, but I am a little secretly sad mine won't be included. Anyone in the same position?

It's a tradition in Scotland that the middle name is a family surname from the mother's side though?

Are you married - if not, it should be your surname anyway!

Could you knock out the Mc for your name (or his!) and double barrel?

eg you are MacAllister he is MacSween

@FizzyGreenWater We're due to have a small elopement in September - I've not decided if I'm changing my name yet, but thinking I probably will, reluctantly, as do want to have the same name as DC.

Middle name I'd thought of too, it is traditional in Scotland. Just again not sure if Mc- Mc- is too much of a burden for DC! 🙈 Hadn't thought of dropping a Mc though, that's a good idea, thanks!

I didn't change my name. Dcs both have dh's surname (though I do wish I'd double barrelled sometimes) and they have my surname as their last middle name.
It's never caused me any problems to have a different surname.
