Torn on this name

My husband and I are having a girl due in about 8 weeks time. It’s our first child.
It’s been a very rough pregnancy , things are getting better but I’m high risk and it’s just been hard. She is perfect but my mental health has been very bad (I won’t bore you with that though).

We love the name Grace. I know some people may say it’s very bland , or boring or common, but we love it-The thing we are torn with is her middle name and whether to either double barrel or to even name her Gracie rather than grace ?
So here’s what we have:
Gracie May
Gracie Mae
Gracie-Mae
Obviously Grace Mae doesn’t really go as it’s two one syllable names and doesn’t sound right to us, but what would you do? Or would you drop that all together and have another middle name ? We initially thought Grace Elizabeth Mary as those are two family names but it’s too long and too much of a mouthful !
Any advise ?
Thanks :)

I actually think Grace is a lovely, classic name. I wouldn’t hyphenate it and I certainly wouldn’t with Mae or Rae, which I think about every second baby girl now has as a hyphenated add on or middle name.
Grace Elizabeth is beautiful.

hipityhipityhop · 23/06/2020 08:14

I am a teacher and this is an unbelievably common name, if that bothers you. I have taught so many x-Mae/Mays over the years it's unreal. I think Grace itself is very classy and timeless. Much better than any hyphenated name in my opinion....

Heartlake · 23/06/2020 08:14

Grace Elizabeth for the birth certificate

Gracie-May for everyday use

violetscone · 23/06/2020 08:14

Grace is lovely. Gracie is too cutesy.

Monstamio · 23/06/2020 08:14

Grace is classic, elegant and understated. You don't need to double barrell or muck about with it. So I'd go with that. Gracie is a standard diminutive you can use when she's little if you want to, while still leaving her options open.

Grace Elizabeth Mary is lovely IMO. Gracie-Mae, I really don't like.

Sorry you've had such a miserable pregnancy Flowers

Gracie May

Janleverton · 23/06/2020 08:16

Think how rarely she will say or you will say her whole name. Grace Elizabeth Mary is lovely.

I’d avoid Mae/May.

I have two reasonably long middle names alongside a first name with three syllables. It has never been an issue. Whole name (altogether) had ten syllables. Married name = 11.

DramaDromedary · 23/06/2020 08:16

Please don’t ruin a classic, meaningful name by hyphenating it with Mae!!! Grace Elizabeth is beautiful. You could call her Gracie if you want, but let her be Grace on her birth certificate. It’s really dignified.

Tonz · 23/06/2020 08:16

I love Grace Elizabeth it's a beautiful name

MrsGilly1 · 23/06/2020 08:18

Grace Elizabeth X Classic and beautiful name X

Angel2702 · 23/06/2020 08:19

It is very common here Gracie-May and Ellie-May hear all the time.

Haz1516 · 23/06/2020 08:19

I agree that as a teacher there are so many -mae names. I also think Gracie is a lovely nickname as a child, but Grace is better as they grow up. Grace is a lovely name.

Grace Elizabeth sounds lovely
Or how about: Grace Maria, Grace Nicole, Grace Danielle, Grace Opal, Grace Georgina

FranklyDearIDontRiverdance · 23/06/2020 08:20

Mae is so overdone and there’s loads of them around here - Ruby-Mae, Lola-Mae, Gracie-Mae.

Just stick with Grace. There’s a reason it’s a timeless classic

Haz1516 · 23/06/2020 08:20

I didn't mean to say 'lovely' so many times!

Whatsyourflava · 23/06/2020 08:24

Grace is gorgeous!! Definitely don't hyphenate it with anything though

How about

Grace Roxanne
Grace Roseanne
Grace Margaret

OffThePlanet · 23/06/2020 08:32

Grace Elizabeth Mary is lovely. I really don’t like nicknames as names, please don’t name her Gracie.

mylittleavalon · 23/06/2020 08:34

Really love Grace, but also not keen on Mae but think Grace Elizabeth is lovely and love a previous posters suggestion of Grace Danielle too xx

Sushiroller · 23/06/2020 08:39

Grace elizabeth is lovely.

Drop the may/Mae stuff.

SoupDragon · 23/06/2020 08:39

Grace Elizabeth Mary is far better than the three options you give. It's lovely!

BruceAndMarley · 23/06/2020 08:43

Thanks everyone , some really lovely positive feedback - we will go with Grace Elizabeth then and at least we can call her Gracie at home but she won’t be stuck as a 40yo women with a name that seemed cute at the time ! Thank you so much 🌺 you’ve all been lovely . It’s been rough but we are on the home stretch now .

Definitely just Grace, not hyphenated. The middle names work too.

Ugzbugz · 23/06/2020 08:45

Grace is lovely and when shes young, people tend to over extend it to Gracie but not sure Gracie for an adult suits? And please dont hyphen it, every girl seems to be something Mae....

Alfaxan · 23/06/2020 08:45

Grace Elizabeth Mary is perfect. Beautiful and timeless. You will only be calling her by her first name anyway day to day, so I don't think it matters that all of her names together are long. They will really only ever be written.
You can call her Gracie as a nickname, but I would definitely keep her official name as Grace. The -Mae thing is a fad and I would rather avoid unless it has very special meaning to you. Congratulations by the way!

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/06/2020 08:47

Grace is a lovely name on its own. I echo what another teacher posted above [name]-May/Mae is extremely common.

SoupDragon · 23/06/2020 08:53
