Would the royals calling their little boy Archie put you off the name?
It was my favourite even before getting pregnant and now they are not in the UK and do not appear too popular - just wondered everyone's thoughts?
I saw someone post a similar post about Archie and it did not receive good feedback - please be nice I love the name and it is not popular around my area!

I’d use it if you like it. He’s not featured in the media as much as George, Charlotte and Louis so I don’t think it’s as much of an issue.

It wouldn’t put me off. My favourite girl name for the last 20 years has been Charlotte. I would still have used it had I had a girl

Topseyt · 21/06/2020 08:42

I think it is a fantastic name. I would have considered it years ago if I had had any boys (I had three girls).

If you like the name then use it. I see no reason why the choice made by anyone else, royal or otherwise, should even be an issue.

Personally, I think that it was high time that the royals began introducing names other than those from the rather well used bunch that they normally stick to. Nothing way out or too off the wall, but Archie fits the bill well.

It's a great name. It wouldn't put me off at all

Thank you, yes I did not want it to put me off but around here it is not popular atm and just hope it will not go as popular as George, Louis etc although not sure it will as not as traditional as those

Zara
Mia
Savannah
Louise
Louis

It wouldn’t put me off. It’s hard to tell exactly what the Royal effect is on names because with George, Charlotte and Archie they chose names which were already on a pretty steady upward trajectory, but I don’t think it’s as dramatic as it might once have been. Louis had dipped slightly before they used it in 2018 so it will be interesting to see if it has a bump when the 2019 numbers come out.

Of course the Cambridges are going to use traditional names for their children. They are in the direct line of succession and George will be King one day.

But the Queen’s great-grandchildren are:

Savannah
Isla
George
Mia
Charlotte
Louis
Lena
Archie

I don’t think it’s a particularly narrow selection. Zara and Peter (and indeed Princess Anne) had already started using less traditionally royal names some time before Archie came along.

bridgetreilly · 21/06/2020 11:37

And her grandchildren are:
Peter
Zara
William
Harry
Beatrice
Eugenie
Louise
James

That's really not a particularly restricted list from the 70s/80s/90s/00s.

I don't like Archie. It's been popular for a while and I have met lots of dogs named Archie. It gets shortened to Arch, which isn't a very nice adjective.
