My dd is 10 years old and we were talking about names the other day and she asked if there were other names we considered. I said your dad wanted to call you Lois, but mummy really didn't like it. She said, oh I love that name so much, I wish you had!! She said she still likes her name but not as much as what she could have been called! I thought it was quite amusing and I got a 'told you it was a good name' from DJ!

I was nearly called Annabel (prissy but not awful), Miranda (F no!) or Donna (double F no!!!). I think I got off lightly. As a child, I would have chosen the name Jessica for myself.

My brother was nearly called Seamus but my dad said no as he didn’t want him having an Irish first name as well as an Irish surname (it was when the IRA was very active and my dad worried it would bring trouble). My brother was gutted as he would have loved to have been calmed Seamus.

I suspect what I have written as Law-ren and 'Lorrun' are very similar in sound.

I know one Lauren who goes by 'LAW-ren' as opposed to 'Lorren' (written phonetically)

I was either going to Megan Helen or Samantha which was vetoed by my grandad. Glad I wasn't a boy as my name would of been Ricky 😂

My cousin is Lauren pronounced LAW-ren. As if you start to say Laura but instead of a at the end it's en.

I have honestly never encountered a Lauren who pronounces her name Lah-ren. All of them are Law-ren - it was a very popular name in DD1's year in school so I know quite a few.

I’m a Lauren and I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it Law-ren, I pronounce it to rhyme with sporran or foreign, and so do other people.

I didn't think I was having a girl and hadn't decided on a girl's name. I went with what my husband liked most and I wish we'd delayed naming her. We have a surname we have to spell and she has a forename that she has to spell. We should've gone for another one that we both loved

Eilidh, Hermione & Hazel were the top 3 contenders when my parents named me. Eilidh was vetoed because, living in England, I'd have spent my life having it mispronounced & misspelt. Hermione because it was too long. Hazel because when it came down to it my Mum wasn't keen. I don't mind my name but I like the other choices too.

@Imalauren obviously not all other people! People who pronounce it differently do exist, people on this thread know them, myself included.

Obviously she hasn't moved out yet!! But I was thinking more along the lines of, not a baby, young child and can form her own opinion of what she thinks of the name choices!!

I have a very popular 80s name. Recently I was discussing names with my mother and she said that she'd always regretted spelling my name the conventional way instead of giving me a 'cuter, girlier' creative spelling that she'd come up with.

I told her I was very, very glad she hadn't. As a woman in my 30s the last impression I want to give people is cute and girly.

I do have a 'creatively spelled' middle name, but it's not cutesy so I don't mind that.

My mother named me after herself. An old fashioned 20’s name. I changed my name when I was 50, don’t know why I waited so long!
