Arabella or something else?

We thought we had decided on a girls name. But after using it, it just didn't feel right.

We have arrived back at Arabella.
What do you all think? It has a very princessy feel but not sure if its "too much". Also, just thinking of my son Noah and learning to write his name, Arabella would be so much harder for her to learn to write.

Noah has a popular name and we can always buy things with him name on. I want that for a girl too.

Other names we have short listed are: Caitlin, Chloe, Cora (doesn't fit the popular name thing though), Harper, Amelia/Millie (linked to birth defect slightly off putting), Poppy, Summer.

Or something else?! Suggestions welcome.

@GlassOfProsecco
OP doesn’t want a name that can be shortened.

Arabella is a popular name (top hundred) so buying things with her name on shouldn't be too hard. My favourite of the names you've suggested are Cora and Poppy. Cora is rising quickly in popularity at the moment. Both names are short and sweet and fit nicely with Noah.

I love Arabella.

From your other ideas, I like Sophia, Harper and Calista/Cali

I don't particularly like Cora or Amelia (don't like the 'cor' and 'mealy' sounds).

I don't think any of them are bad choices though.

If you want something with a slightly frilly feel like Arabella and Calista but more popular, how about:

Annabelle, Alexandra, Beatrice, Eleanor, Evangeline, Elizabeth, Felicity, Georgina, Isabella, Olivia, Victoria or Zara

If you want a name that can't be shortened, I would avoid Arabella. Bella is an obvious shortening.

Gunpowder · 10/06/2020 07:42

Love Arabella. I know what you mean about writing her name (DD2 has a 10 letter name and has struggled) but the two ‘l’s will be easy so it’s not that bad.

SallyWD · 10/06/2020 07:49

It's a nice name but very posh. The only one I know is about 20 and comes from a very rich family. Their family house is practically a mansion, she owns horses, went to a very expensive school, her father was a Tory MP. To me she's a typical Arabella.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 10/06/2020 07:56

Caitlin, Chloe and Summer are all lovely.

Personally I do think Arabella is a bit princessey . I'm not really keen on those type of names because I think they are a bit much....

pistachioicecream · 10/06/2020 07:56

I have a son called Noah and a daughter called Arabella - So I obviously think you have great taste in names!! Grin.

My children are teenagers so when we chose them they weren’t popular names at all. Funny how things change.

But have never regretted their name choices. Love them both. Smile

WSLTitanic1912 · 10/06/2020 08:29

@pistachioicecream Thank you for that! Im guessing for me I'm mouring the loss of the name Matilda so nothing else is quite comparing right now. Can I just ask, does your Arabella ever get shortened? Or has she always been Arabella? Thank you.

Have just sent you a message privately.

I love Arabella , Matilda and Emilia ! What name did you go for ? X

mumonherphone · 30/03/2023 11:17

Arabella is very princessy and a bit too much for me. Do you like Annabel or Isobel?

Chloe and Noah sound good together!

@daisypond My all time favourite was Matilda and now I can't use that. Nothing seems to compare.
Considered Sophia/Sofia but not sure it goes with Noah.
Martha, Elsie and Cora were some other options.
Or back to an old favourite Amelia.
Briefly thought about Poppy but dont think its quite for me. Same with Heidi.
The only other girls name is Calista. As wouldn't mind her being called Cali. But thats so wildly different to Noah.
Girls names are impossible.

What about Sophie?

Noah & Sophie go well together and it seems much less used than Sophia x

Oh sorry, just seen this is an old post but it came up as top on the home page? What did you end up going for OP? ☺️ @WSLTitanic1912

Viviennemary · 30/03/2023 13:47

Arabella sn't awful by any means. But I don't like it very much. Harper is totally dire so not that. Cora is quite nice.

Elspethelf · 30/03/2023 19:50

I like Arabel and had it on my list but when I look it up it’s not a name lol! I prefer Isobel to Isabella so I just assumed you could also drop the -la at the end of Arabella too.

From your short list, I like Summer best

COPPER3 · 30/03/2023 20:00

Arabella
Calista
Sophia
are lovely (and unusual)

Why are you unable to use Matilda?
xx
