Hey everyone,

I am due a little girl in a few weeks and I am very excited.

My husband’s daughter is called Hermione and she is in her early 30s. She doesn’t live with us, but she is very excited to have a little half-sister.

I like the following two names:

Evie
Siobhan

What does everyone think?

Ginny
Molly
Luna

I like Siobhan. Evie is also nice but has been super-popular in recent times.

Harriet Wink

I prefer Siobhan. Evie/Eva/Ava names are everywhere.

draughtycatflap · 08/06/2020 21:30

Moaning Myrtle.

Pinkyyy · 08/06/2020 21:31

I have a feeling you'll get a lot of Harry potter names. Was she named after the character?

whatagonnahappennow · 08/06/2020 21:33

Heidi

BullshitVivienne · 08/06/2020 21:36

I doubt someone in their early 30s is named after the Harry Potter character.

Pinkyyy · 08/06/2020 21:41

Oh yes sorry, misread. How old is your husband?

LonginesPrime · 08/06/2020 21:43

Why would you need to co-ordinate names when the other child is 30?

It's not like you're going to be taking them both to parties or getting them 'same but different gifts'.

Surely as long as you don't call the new baby Hermione, you'll be fine with any name you like?

Swifty2 · 08/06/2020 21:49

Siobhan is lovely, I love Irish names, my niece is called Niamh and I also love Maeve. My dog is called Evie so I can't even entertain it for a child Grin

kenandbarbie · 08/06/2020 22:11

I don't think you need to worry about matching with a thirty year old sibling.

Sittingontheveranda · 08/06/2020 22:17

Siobhan is a pretty harsh sounding name imo. I'm not a fan of Evie but it is preferable and prettier than Siobhan.
What do you like about both names? Is it the 'v' sound?
What about Vivienne?
Hermione is a really lovely name. Do you want something in the same vein? Felicity perhaps? But does it really matter if your baby's name matches her half sibling?

Whatsyourflava · 08/06/2020 22:34

Evie is lovely

How about Edith nn Edie for a different option (less used)

Whatsyourflava · 08/06/2020 22:35

Siobhan is one of my least favourite names- really dislike the sound and spelling

Whatsyourflava · 08/06/2020 22:35

Felicity?

indemMUND · 08/06/2020 23:30

With that age gap I wouldn't worry about coordination. What names do you like?

CaffiSaliMali · 09/06/2020 08:44

I also wouldn't worry about coordination given the large age gap. My parents didn't when I was born 20+ years after my half siblings.

As your DSD is Hermione I would avoid any obviously Harry Potter name like Luna, Minerva, Lily etc. Your DSD was probably born a good 9 years or so before Philosopher's stone was published, so her name wasn't influenced by Harry Potter, but you may find HP jokes a bit annoying if you use another name associated with HP.

Cordelia
Persephone
Penelope
Calliope
Caroline
Anastasia
Alexandria
Katharine
Elizabeth
Clarissa
Imogen
Cressida
Phyllida

I imagine from Hermione that your husband likes slightly unusual, but known, names.

Evie is nice but has been very popular in recent years, which would put me off. I prefer Eve and Eva as a full name, or Evelyn, Evelina, Evangeline and Evangelina.

Siobhan is also nice. I also like Irish names like Niamh, Fiadh, Aoife, Orlaith, RĂłisĂn and Una.

ILoveStickers · 09/06/2020 08:52

Siobhan is lovely - not many of them around at the moment (among kids, anyway).

If you like Irish names with V sounds, there are lots:
Maeve (or Meabh)
Sadhbh
Niamh
Alva (or Ailbhe)
Caoimhe

And sh sounds:
Sinead
Aisling
Ailis
Saoirse
Roisin

I quite like Evie but I think I would use Eva, Evelyn or Evangeline and use Evie as a nickname.

I'm not keen on Siobhan. It seems quite dated. Unless you're in Ireland in which case I have no idea if it's dated or not. But I would assume an English Siobhan to be a 70s-90s baby.

I also wouldn't worry about matching with Hermione but, if you wanted a longer, classical, slightly unusual name, how about:

Aurelia, Antonia, Araminta, Arabella, Ariadne, Beatrice, Cassandra, Clarissa, Carolina, Christabel, Elizabeth, Francesca, Felicity, Georgina, Henrietta, Isadora, Jacinta, Juliette, Katerina, Liliana, Lucinda, Lorelai, Larissa, Miranda, Marianne, Natalia, Natasha, Ophelia, Octavia, Persephone, Pandora, Rosaline, Rosemary, Sylvia, Seraphina, Susannah, Tatiana, Vanessa, Victoria, Xanthe

Names which I associate with Evie:

Annie, Amber, Abbie, Bonnie, Chloe, Connie, Cleo, Daisy, Darcey, Ellie, Emily, Elsie, Edie, Esme, Erin, Eden, Effie, Freya, Gracie, Hollie, Heidi, Isla, Ivy, Iris, Jasmine, Kayla, Katie, Kitty, Lily, Lucy, Layla, Lola, Leah, Molly, Millie, Mia, Maia, Maddie, Nia, Poppy, Phoebe, Ruby, Rosie, Sophie, Sienna, Sylvie, Summer, Scarlett, Tilly, Tia, Thea, Willow, Zoe

Names which I associate with Siobhan:

Anita, Annette, Amy, Alison, Ashleigh, Asha, Angela, Bryony, Billie, Claire, Carly, Caroline, Courtney, Danielle, Denise, Deborah, Emma, Erica, Fiona, Hannah, Helen, Hazel, Jennifer, Joanna, Joanne, Jane, Jade, Joy, Jocelyn, Jacqueline, Julia, Karen, Kimberly, Kayleigh, Lisa, Lindsay, Lynne, Louise, Louisa, Melanie, Melissa, Maria, Miriam, Michelle, Nicola, Nicole, Naomi, Philippa, Rebecca, Rachel, Ruth, Robyn, Sarah, Samantha, Stephanie, Sian, Sinead, Suzanne, Tiffany, Tanya, Theresa, Vivienne, Valerie, Wendy, Zoe

@Emma98777 my very first thought from the title of the post alone was Hebe, although having read the whole post I agree with other pps that coordination isn’t an issue here given the age gap, however Hermione (gorgeous name) gives a good helpful indicator of your dh’s taste. Of your two choices I prefer Evie although very ubiquitous If such things bother you, as others have said. Still a lovely name though. I adore Eve, it’s one of my very favourite names if not my absolute favourite. Charmian is a lovely Shakespearean name which is easy to say and spell but underused today and I feel may fit with the taste vibe.

SIERRALOVESKIDS11 · 10/06/2020 11:06

Hi there! What about Jenevieve? Could be shortened to Vivian or Jen. You could spell it with a G but I like how It looks with a J. I know a little girl at the place I work called Jenevieve Maison.
